It’s not like I like you or anything

I’m kind of disappointed by the way Sandor’s handled in the Game of Thrones TV show, I don’t feel like they quite capture that conflict between accidentally being a good guy and trying to overcompensate for it by yelling about what a bad dude nihilist he really is that he had in the books.
I can see that. He’s definitely more of a soft puppy in the show, he doesn’t get to attempt to be an asshole very much.
My issue is more the opposite, that they replace every rant he had about the feudal system and the hipocrisy in the knight’s order in the books with speeches about being a sociopath and it really flattens out his whole personality.
That’s too bad, stuff like him rather being called a hound than being knighted because hounds are more loyal than knights really made me like his character. Specially because most of the time he is right.
why does this portrayal of the hound feel like a good version of two face?
More Harvey Dent superhero then medeval assassin.
love the comic thanks.
Harvey, where did you go? Two face is back and he looks, super pissed.
Scary Face! I missed you
I just cannot find that face scary ever since encountering a certain Hanako Ikezawa. Especially with that hair. It just reminds me too much of her, which is kind of uncanny.
Yea, cuz I’m Harvey Dent!
http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/clapping.gif
“alright, let’s start over. What do you see?”
“Harvey face”
“alright, now what do you see?” *turns to other side*
“scary face.”
“good, now put them both together and what do you get?”
“Two face you’re back, what have you done with Harvey and Scary Face?”
I want this framed on my wall.
D…D-Don’t get the w-wrong idea! It… It’s not like i want to tell you that you can use vector tracing & resize this picture to a huge file size & print this awesome comic strip or anything! Y-y-you got that?!
-clings- :3
Find the VectorMagic program, or look on its website, for a demo rasterization… just saying (blush)
Lol, I really need to read the books now XD
Got me thinking that too.
The books are really good. They don’t take a lot of liberties in the show, but they do cut out a lot of really good development for the sake of time constraints.
Ehhhhhhh, I wouldn’t do that if I were you. They’ve got a lot of girth, but they could trim down to a classy tankini bod if they lost just the catchphrases. “You know nothing, Jon Snow,” “Winter is coming,” “Hodor,” etc. If I ever have to read the sentence, “A Lannister always pays his debts” again, I will burn the heart out of George R.R. Martin.
“I will burn the heart out of-” I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.
Honestly “I am the blood of the dragon.” is far worse. That might just be because I like Tyrion and hate Dany, but-
“Words are wind” and “where do whores go” are the worst
So, I guess the Hound is tsundere? *laughs*
When compressed in five minutes max per episode, yes.
I ought to read the books.
Or watch the show.
Nah, I’ll look u an online plot summary, I’ve got no time.
Don’t worry. I don’t have the time either. I have much more important things to do–like tweet my every thought!
But, you’re Professor Templeton, the Time Detective! You have time for anything!
Here’s a plot summary:
Is it a character you like?
He/she/it will die.
The end.
It’s like Hamlet, only longer! :D
I can sum up the whole thing in 3 words:
It gets worse.
Dude! Professor! It’s crazy, often times the comics I read (Spinnerette, Blade Bunny) have the same commenters! Neat!
Oh man, is there a larger version of this uploaded anywhere? I’d love to get a better view of Sandor’s and the kid’s expressions. (CoelaSandor is perfect Sandor A+ Sandor)
Characters flattened and despoiled in the show:
Sandor Clegane
Also
Everyone else
=/
It’s kinda hard to adapt a fictional creation (such as novels, games, comics) into a real life counterpart. The directors, imho, are likely to blame. They tend to think “what can make big bucks” instead of “what fans want”. Happened in Transformers movie trilogy (Bayformers, LOLs). Michael Bay did a good job in the first movie. But in Revenge of The Fallen & Dark of The Moon? He disappoint most of old fans (the G1 fans, particularly). New fans like it, but not their parents/uncles/grandparents.
Not true for everyone, Man. I’m a new fan, but I completely lost interest after the first of those movies. The first was good. The second and third weren’t about Transformers so much as Megan Fox and what a selfless, righteous person she is as well as being a part of a lot of people’s erotic fantasies. xP
Anyway, I got grossed out after the first one. Most people I know will whole-heartedly agree.
Megan Fox wasn’t even in the third.
yet she was still the focus of the film somehow
So what you’re saying is, the new fans know well enough to dislike them as well? I am overcome with relief.
New fans know well enough from reliable sources ^^; Just sayin’.
FYI, If you are talking about Transformers topic earlier, i’m not an old fans too. I start to like Transformers since Beast Wars, because the figurines are more playable than the G1. Weird, huh? Since then, i’m looking for any info about Transformers in TFWiki. Then slowly i know well enough about most of Transformers franchises ^^;;
I just wish to point out, the problem with the books is that MArtin was seeking to make an epic, without attempting to allow for adaptation. however, he is a writer of the show, and is attempting to tell as much of the story as possible. Despite how much he misses, it still tells a complete and powerful story
Also, the is a LOT of content. A few years ago they tried to make a Dune movie and they knew well enough not to take anything out, and they ended up with a 6-or-9 hour movie and almost no budget left for props.
It also irritates the shit out of me that his scars are on the wrong side in the TV show.
Suddenly reminded of Avatar the Last Airbender….
HOOOONOOOOORRRR!
I’ve read that for a moment as “HOOOODOOOORRRR!”, but honor is ok, too – I guess.
(little kid to zuko) Hey! Your Zuko costume is great! But the scars on the wrong side…
And here I was, thinking ‘Huh, she got the scars on the wrong side of his face…? Seems a bit of an odd slip.’
After mainlining season 3 today, I don’t think I want to read the books. I couldn’t handle this much unrelenting misery for that long.
And he’s a school councilor on the side.
First of all: Love this comic. That’s one of the things that makes The Hound one of the most (in my opinion) interesting characters in the books.
Second of all: When did we get the cool monochrome CB image down by the comments section?! I guess I need to comment more often…
He’s been there for months, if not longer, you just have to scroll down further :P
I know nothing of “Game of Thrones”, but I find this hilarious beyond words.
Neither do I, so all I saw in this comic was Nathan Explosion getting ready to play D&D.
I have read the books and watched the show, and I still saw Nathan Explosion before the “Mr The Hound” line.
Thank you, Coelasquid. For now, I cannot see Sandor Clegane as anyone but Nathan Explosion.
Nathan Explosion’s identifying characteristics include having both halves of his face intact and looking like every tall bulky white guy with long black hair and scowly features on the planet.
Hahaha, rarw.
I think normies who are not huge into manly-dude media do not see a whole lot of guys who are tall, bulky, white, and long-haired, Coela, but point made, I suppose.
Don’t forget the constant death growl.
Nathan Explosion also has his finger nails painted black for some reason. I don’t really understand why they have that as part of his character, as I can’t imagine a guy like him painting them himself or getting a manicure. Just seems very out of place to me.
They’re constantly bruised black by stupid shenanigans in my headcanon.
Brutal.
Well, he does put on makeup for his performances… so fingernails, yeah…
And yet I’ve known guys who fit this exactly. It’s not unusual in some metal scenes, or if you know any big, burly goth guys.
Neither do I, Offender. It’s still funny.
Haven’t seen GoT yet, and as much as would like to see what all the hype is about, it’s on at the same time as Arrow, so maybe can watch GoT during the ads
…
*twitch*
…
Guesticus, you’re prioritizing Arrow over AGoT? *twitch**twitch*
…
Oh well, there’s always Netflix for you poor fools. You’ll learn some day.
Only because Arrow started first (on free TV anyway)
I can only advise you to read or watch it, as it is really good and If you can’t watch it on televison then you can still do so on the internet (on a leagal way of corse).
I couldn’t care less about hype and feel no need to form a strong oppinion due to that (and neither should you), but at least it tells that many people like it, so if you like hard fantasy, it surely can’t hurt to take a closer look at a few episodes (that one’s to complicated for a one ep decision).
Never said the hype was good or bad or over-inflated, just there is a lot of it
Don’t bother watching, read the books instead. Go with an audiobook if that’s what it takes.
If there’s no Garlan Tyrell, Tytos Blackwood or Patchface then you’re getting a decidedly inferior product.
How dare you not even mention the lack of Strong Belwas!
I knew there was someone I loved I was forgetting, but couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
Strong Belwas is one third of the likeable population of Mereen!
NO STRONG BELWAS??
I guess I can’t watch it.
Red Cap needs his onions.
Before reading her explanation, I thought this was something to do with Jonah Hex. I think that is fair looking at the dude’s face.
I was getting a strong Two-Face vibe, myself. I’m caught up on the show, and after seeing the slight disfigurement represented on Clegane’s face there, it took me a double take to parse that with this.
I should probably read the books.
Two Face Origins!
Bah, I’d already replied to the comment above your’s before reading this. Well, I agree.
If this is how he looked in the book. I can understand why they toned it down. One of the things I hated about the newer Two-Face in Dark Knight was how ridiculous he looked on screen, with half his tongue drying out through his cheek-hole (which didn’t impede his speech?) and no eyelid.
The scar is on the other side of his face in the show and I think it only goes 1/2 – 2/3 the way down his face
Also no tunic.
Lucky for me I wasn’t drawing Rory McCann.
Best. Response. Evar. Don’t worry. I got it.
Perfect. Coelasquid’s version of Sandor pretty much defined how I pictured him in the books; I was disappointed when he didn’t look like that in the show.
I think, originally, they did try to do makeup and prosthetics that were closer to the book. But I remember reading something about how the actor found it difficult to act and emote through the heavy prosthetics, so the scarring had to be toned down for practical reasons.
Prosthetics? Psh, real actors get plastic surgery to look like their characters.
Nay! REAL actors go through real life events to look like their characters! And they stick with the changes!
I guess Rory Mccann should go hold his face against a hot stove for a bit then.
Exactly!
I’m reminded of that scene in the beginning of Borderlands 2 when Handsome Jack is chatting with Pierce in the ECHOlogs.
“Holy nutballs! You wanna tell me why it looks like you headbutted a belt sander?!” or something.
Cheers!
Like Kirk Lazarus.
So Tsun-tsun
Perfect :) I’m loving the Game of Throne Series. Waiting years for each new novel ruined the books for me.
He looks like Nathan Explosion turned into Two-Face.
…Hey why haven’t you ever had Nathan Explosion in this comic?
Well, now I can’t ever start watching Game Of Thrones. It would bug me too much that this isn’t in it.
I have 4 of the books, but I have a hard time getting into them. They feel very monotonous at times, and other times, Martin likes to go off on long tangents that I feel have nothing to do with what’s currently going on.
That said, I think it’s not just Clegane that gets changed into a one-dimensional character that’s recognized by their one and only label (spoiled brat, noble guy, gay knight, bitch queen). I do enjoy the show, but I agree with you in that some of the characters got changed for the sake of making them “more appealing” for the show.
A lot of them were changed, but I think Sandor is one of the ones who suffered the worst of it.
Thing I like about the books is the world information and the culture/personality tidbits and the food. If you want a point A to point B story, I don’t think the books are for you because as you say they tangent off on things that have nothing to do with the plot but a lot to do with the world/culture/person information.
I like it because I like those kinds of details and I feel the author hits them pretty head on.
The TV show- haven’t gotten to the third season yet but I like the books better. The TV show kind of does its own thing while having the idea basted on the books.
In the show he seemed to progress to almost a ‘big brother/uncle’ towards Arya and Sansa. Like that older brother that seems like an asshole and you wouldn’t like him on a daily basis but still does right by you when things go to pot.
It’s the same thing in the books, but they cut out a lot of his political rants and it cheapens the whole transition. In the books he’s like the Hell’s Angel younger brother to a big brother crooked cop, who wants everyone to think he’s a big angry nihilist because he knows how corrupt the system is. One of my friends described him perfectly as “Wanting very badly deep down to be the gallant knight in shining armour”. His nature is to be that guy, but he’s been so burned (olololo) by the system that he uses all of his energy to try to convince people that’s not who he is. The show hits the story beats of him helping Sansa and Arya, but they replaced all his rants about hypocrisy in the heraldic order and those who claim to practice chivalry with rants about how fun murder is and it kind of steamrolls his whole arc.
He seems like a sad blunt realist in the book and like you said a nihilist in the show. I remember the scene with the Brotherhood where they accused him of murder and he spat it back in their faces saying that they were all murderers, the only difference being is that they had someone smear some oil on their faces and give them a blessing, and he didn’t. I wish they had kept his rants then, it would have been better for it.
Any way to share this stuff on facebook, to get you more views?
Never seen the show or read the books. Still chortled.
He kinda looks like Nathan Explosion
Please see; link
Omg this is perfect. Tsun tsun with a dash of dere.
And i was also pretty bummed by how they spun the characters with the show, but not surprised. The hound was my favorite in the books but the show kind of made him less in my mind. He’s just less of what he needs more of. And the sociopath thing irks me :/
But i still love the Hound.
Ahahahaha this could completely be a scene on the show.
I love how she calls him ‘Mr The Hound’.
Sandor is my third favourite character, after Euron “my balls and I” Greyjoy and Sir Cuttie grumpy bear friendzone a.k.a. Jorah Mormont. He’s just a good guy trying to cope up with the fact his motherfucking big big brother is a living death god with no remorse about putting his own brother’s face to a firepit (among other nice things) and being the bodyguard of one of the few genuinely bastards of all the story. I came to see him as a Wolverine with no powers and no friends to warm up. He’s the perfect analogy of the world of aSoIaF.
His face is pleasantly horrific. I think that’s pretty great.
This is great. Your Hound looks exactly as he does in my head cannon. Wonderful.
Do more, pleaaaaase!!!!
D…D-Don’t get the w-wrong idea! It… It’s not like i like to visit this not so a-a-awesome comic strip or anything! Y-y-you got that?!
that is the best Tsundere i have ever seen.
I am remembering and loving your nickname for him, Tsundere Clegane.
I just spent 5 hours reading the entire comic from beginning to end, and it was worth it.
Think the show has done a reasonable job portraying the Hound as a sociopath but it is tough to do so without a inner monologue or narration telling us his true motivations. Maybe we get more into the Hounds head in the next season after someone reads this strip.
The point is he’s not a sociopath, he’s just trying to be loud and angry to scare people off, but they get rid of some really good moments of characterization he had in favour of just… pretty one dimensional speeches about being a sociopath. You barely ever hear him talk about his brother or how he feels about the pedestal people put knights and chivalry on in the show, and that was a huuuuge part of his character in the books. Every conversation seemed to turn into a rant about what a terrible person his brother was and how he was planning to kill him, but now in the show even when other people give him a conversation prompt to talk about his brother he clams up.
Sort of glad I never had the time to get into that show then. I always hate it when characters get so butchered they might as well just renamed the person and made someone fully new for the story.
I can understand changing a few small details to make the story not a redundant copy of a book; but say you have a mass serial murderer who launches nuclear bombs as a hobby. You can’t go and all of a sudden make this version of him be a pacifist veterinarian who breaks down if a fly gets killed by a frog in his care. This isn’t an example of any character in general but that’s what it feels like Hollywood does sometimes.
It’s an even bigger shame considering how they used the first one of those for his audition (Link for those who haven’t seen): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIWX2fPx-5k
This is soo awesome i wanted to share it to all my friends, 1st time commenting just to say this comic needs a share button urgently
I did this today. Wow, cats are so stupid, or maybe just this particular one. It had gotten its lower torso and legs stuck between two branches probably 15 feet up a tree that had no lower branches. I fiddled until I could reach it, and dang. That cat was fat, and not very bright, because I think it *tried* to jump off the roof of the apartment and failed. *shake mah head*
Hey it look like Nath- kidding, kidding!
Great character in the books, someday I’ll get round to watching the show.
Bugger it, I’ll go read the books if everyone’s going to conspire to put it in my face *looks around paranoidly* If it’s as good as people say, I’ll see you in a couple of days.
I haven’t seen the show (no HBO), but these books have been on my [massive] to-read list… and you just made me want to read them even MORE. XD
I don’t want to be “That guy” and I haven’t read the books yet just seen the HBO series so far, but he has his burn on the wrong side (compared to the HBO series). Still hilarious and pretty much sums up his personality, He does so little bad and so much good but still gets branded a bad guy. You kill one kid… who let’s face it gone up against the queen and the brat would have probably been tortured to death so it was kind of a mercy killing.
Perhaps a cursory google sweep would have revealed that HBO were actually the ones to put the scar on the wrong side of the character’s face…
Yeah, I haven’t read the books yet, mostly wanted to say the other part, when I watched through everyone was saying how he was a bad guy and I couldn’t see it. Still an awesome comic just like all of them.
Goddamn, I’ve been waiting literally years for this comic! There’s a reason Sandor Clegane is my favorite character in the books and this is it! Very rarely have I been this gratified. Also, character design is pretty spot on. Bravo!
Yeah, that’s the Hound for you.
Oh Deus… NOW I see Clegane as Zagato from Magic Knight Rayerth!
It’s like an Oglaf strip almost. Which is a good thing mind.
The way he’s drawn reminds me a lot of Nathan Explosion.
Oh mannnnn, I didn’t realize that the title called him “Tsundere Clegane,” that’s greaaaat.
Haha, this is hilarious.
Well done and amusing. Thank you Coelasquid.
I love the total tonal contrast between how he speaks and how he acts. And how oblivious the little girl is to the big scary man shouting at her.
Heeeeeeeey, I did that first!!!!! LOL

YOU’RE A GoT FAN OH I’M HAPPY
The guy seems to have some wierd kind of Tourette.
And everybody knows and is used to it. XD
This is just. Perfect. I recently finished the second book and you’ve pegged Sandor so well. Great job!
I don’t even watch GoT and haven’t invested in the books yet, but I still see what you did there. Tsundere / Sandor. I see what you did there.
I just thought of something over the weekend. If this comic is about manly characters, then Gaston from Beauty and the Beast could make an appearance. Is this possible?
Ok, so I saw everysingleone of your entries and loved ’em all, what am I gonna do now? Wait like the rest of the world for more stuff? What do I do in the meantime? I was laughing so much, I don’t wanna go back to the real life…
Anyway, love your work.
Second to last panel was hysterical.
I have never read the books or watched the show, and quite honestly, I don’t plan on doing so, since it’s not my kind of book(s). But I will say this: Almost every movie that was based off of a book has screwed something up. There are very few movies that actually did their books justice.
Oh yes. This is so right in every sense XD
Despite the changes to Sandor, among other characters, do you remain a fan of the show Coalesquid? There have been plenty of changes, some I agree with, some I’m not so big on (AGH WHY DIDN’T GREY WIND KILL SOME FREYS?), but I overall still love the show and look forward to every sunday when a new season is running. Curious about your opinions.
Cleganebowl, fucking confirmed!
This is also every Renegade Shep from Mass Effect ever…
Is that Peter Steele as Clegane?
