I’m not even going to apologize for this

Papa Stark grilling hot dogs is one of those things that made me giggle at first but by the time I finished it I had no idea if it was actually funny or if I’m just dumb.
No worries. I’m still giggling.
Yeah, I laughed. Worth the update.
Agreement.
Agreement too!
I haven’t seen the show, and only know this line through its inundation through media, and I still giggled at it.
I really like that you draw the characters based on the book’s description and not how they look in the show.
My thoughts exactly. It really pisses me off to see artists just copying the television show, its like hey that’s not a picture of Tyrion that’s a picture of Peter Dinklage.
Except Arya should have the same hair color as Ned and Jon.
I need a hobby.
Maybe this is Bran.
Yeah. Arya’s probably off working on her mad archery skills, or somesuch.
In a line of discussion about book vs show accuracy, I find any mention of Arya’s mad archery skills more entertaining than I should.
Heh. Yeah, well, she’s at least a better shot than Bran. And this picture is before she starts learning to be a badass little assassin, so dancing lessons don’t come into it.
…. It’s been a while since I’ve read the books. Keep getting distracted by other books. And the internet.
Heh… “Papa Stark”
If he’s always so solemn-like, I imagine family grilling at the Starks’ would not be a particularly joyous time.
I can’t imagine not being joyous while grilling. You know they’re all giddy on the inside.
The family prides itself on a very puritanical sense of joy. Just look at him enjoying the brisk northern air and the dying of the light.
Oh no, I can’t be the only one that was thinking of Tony Stark’s dad when I saw the update in my feeds… can I?
This is awesome!
A little from column A and a little from column B.
I can’t assure you it isn’t dumb, but it sure made me laugh.
^Agree. You know, Squid? It may be even better if the image is long image (i.e 650×1950), so the element of funny will jab with full power! XDDDDDDDDDDDD
But still, this is funny!
I will admit I’ve never taken the time to read Game of Thrones, even though I’ve heard good things about it.
But when I hear “Stark,” I can’t help but think of a certain super hero in red power-armor. =)
You’re not the only one.. and there are tons of parody images in the Web about this ^_^
Think of this; Theon Greyjoy, of the ironmen and raised by the starks. BOOM!!
Or better yet, Tony Stark fell in love with a certain naked dragon girl… :P LOLs
Well, if this can help. I definitely found that funny too. But it also is pretty stupid (that’s what makes it funny)
No. No. This is good. :D
For some reason it’s funnier (yes that’s a word) to me if I imagine it without the text.
I giggled when I first saw it, then tried it your way (by hiding the speech bubble with my hand.) I think you’re right. The expressions alone are enough to make me giggle like an idiot, because Ned looks so incredibly serious, and the kids look so conflicted, while he does such a simple, seemingly mundane thing. XD
I love it either way though.
And my thoughts immediately went to “Poor Theon, if you only knew….”
Win.
I thought this was a clever cross joke between you and the guy from SMBC (http://www.smbc-comics.com/?#comic). His secret panel when you click on the red button said that he would have a weiner joke today…
I love it. I especially love the looks on the kids faces.
I am still waiting for an epic battle between Crocodile Dundee and Killer Croc ( hopefully the arkham asylum version) only for them both to be taken down by Steve Irwin ( the crocodile hunter) then pokes them with sticks and calls them gorgeous.
Australians are generally too busy enjoying themselves to need the help of Commander’s agency.
Wait, you do know that Crocodile Dundee wasn’t actually a crocodile, don’t you? o_O
lol yeah I know who crocodile dundee is but still its two “crocs” going at it, only to be taken down by the most unseemingly manly person I have ever known. Steve Irwin never looked like most of the guys who frequent this comic but he was probably more manly than I could ever hope to be. I mean who else would constantly put themselves with the most dangerous animals on the planet, tell you how deadly they are, then grab it and show you up close all for your educational benefit.
Very true, would be great to see him show up: as you said, he was a Manly Man with out being, umm, overly-Manly (someone Jared could aspire to, at least physically, plus, pretty sure Steve would love to examine Mr Fishie {knowing Mr Fishie, probably end up doing it from the inside, with a speech bubble coming from the general location of his stomach saying “Crikey!”})
^*ROFLOLMAO!*
Every inch of this is spectacular.
It is dumb, therefore it is funny.
Wish I had seen this before my last BBQ.
This is amazing.
T-shirt plz?
This comic made me giggle. :)
Rigorous characters.
Great colors.
It’s OK to just make a silly joke & not worry if it’s the MOST-BRILLIANT-THING-EVAHHH!!!1!, but I guess it’s a good idea to throw out the silly warning on teh intertubes, with its sea of gibbering critics who want to sound cool by being cruel.
Darn you typo-demon!
“Rigorous” should be “gorgeous.” :p
Ghost looks pretty intent on those sausages.
He is, perhaps, the smartest character in that picture.
All the baby Starks in the background looking so serious and sad just make it funnier. Especially Robb, it’s like he’s just back there going “Really, Dad? Really?”
If you mean the little kid at the back, totally agree with you :D
The only thing I’m dissappointed in here is that it’s wieners as in hot dogs and not wieners as in wiener dogs. :)
Maybe he can see the dogs coming out of the fog (did the horn blow 3 times?)
I am getting a mental image of thousands of dachshunds running out of a forest. It is full of awesome.
Alright, this page made me laugh out loud twice… First thanks to Coela, and now thanks to this comment.
I really needed it. Seriously, thank you.
MWAHAHA… (Snerk). That resumes Edd Stark. Alas, he was missed.
I up the ante with

Or even better

NSFW for mild profanities and british scolding.
Haven’t seen or read GOT, but the art still made me chortle. It’s the contrast between the seriousness of the faces with the BBQ fork and grill. And the line “Weiners are coming,” spoken softly and with the portent of prophecy, adds to the fun.
Plus, “weiners” is inherently funny. That’s why New York nearly voted him mayor.
Oh Lord.
I just realized why Ed Stark looks so troubled.
There are not enough dogs for the wolves.
Marvelous…

People be taking your pictures http://themetapicture.com/totally-friendzoned/
Read it in Ned’s then Olenna’s voice. Still giggling my head off…oops, sorry Ned.
Such a simple joke, yet so fricking hilarious. Two thumbs up.
Definitely giggle-worthy.
This would make a great t-shirt.
This makes me laugh, but I still think you missed an awesome joke by not having Theon appearing as disgusted/shocked from the sausages. Poor, poor Theon.
Honestly I wasn’t super keen on how the series took all the subtlety from the book and just smashed it with a sledgehammer. Like, they could have fleshed out so many other things instead of going back to that one point over and over again and beating you over the head with it. Thought it was pretty tasteless all things considered.
Kind of like EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE SHOW OHOHOHO
More or less, yeah, but that one was especially tasteless.
Kind of like writing a shopping list on the back of an envelope and using it to mail a letter to someone who has no need of shopping at all, eh?
Excellent.
You are a weirdo, C. And you have my sincerest thanks for following this concept through.
Although, I don’t follow ‘Thrones’, its nice that you depict the characters from the pages rather than the screen.
This did have to exist and it is beautiful.
… i can’t tell if the double entendre was intentional…. it seems more crass than you usually do.
(the word ‘coming’, in particular)
It isn’t, most likely. It’s a play on the Stark family motto, “Winter is Coming.”
I’m perfectly aware. I watch game of thrones. I’ve even started reading the original series, A Song of Ice and Fire.
That doesn’t change the fact that you get an automatic double-entendre when you change winter to wieners.
* awed slow clapping * O.O
I demand posters!
You know nothing John Snow…… about grilling. Seriously, it’s like eating a charcoal briquette
For some reason until I read the tags I thought this was about Tony Stark…
Maybe it’s due to that one direct to dvd animated movie where everyone after the credits tells tony to shut up about bbq’s…
I lol’d as soon as I saw the weenies… XD
At some point I should actually watch Game of Thrones.
Today was a rather gloomy day, mostly butting heads with family over stupid drama, and more of the same, and even when everything was resolved, it was sort of a mehish day.
Then I read your comic, and after a few seconds, I start laughing for a minute straight.
Thank you Coelasquid xD
You’re dumb… but it’s still funny :-D
It was funny. I’m reading Game of Thrones right now, and I didn’t immediately recognize Ned Stark, but I get it =)
The Red Barbecue!!!!
Coelasquid, I love you. This is just tops.
At least it was a BBQ, after all, you can’t trust them Frey chefs…
sadly… i only recognized the joke because of “winter is coming” every few days on facebook…
but i still smile :)
No should you
I was wondering to myself, “Should I read more Clash of Kings?” a little while ago. Apparently I should.
It probably not worth it. The confused/concerned looks on everyone else’s face was, though.
Hey Coelasquid you should really see the new52 Lobo redesign
It looks like the Nomuro virus is back
I much prefer your version of ASoIaF.
The juvenile mind in my head is giggling, but probably not for the reasons you intended.
The image of him solemnly barbecuing is funny by itself. But the word “Wieners” always makes me giggle.
I kinda wish the kid at least looked more impatient. Or it was the Temp Agency’s BBQ party and the less stoic men were getting rowdy and bored. But considering how we saw The Hound in a medieval era, I guess the current setting makes more sense.
I started snorting with laughter when I saw this, mainly because last year I tried making the same joke while mum was watching a rerun of Game of Thrones and we were grilling up some hot dogs. She didn’t think it was funny (or maybe she didn’t get it, I dunno.)
I lurk pretty hard here, but I had to finally say something.
You suck for this pun.
Love the comic, by the way.
I’m surprised this is the first game of thrones page. Also, couldn’t you have done Jon Snow saying crows before hos instead?
I laughing at this! It’s just epic!
Jar. Now.
I guess i need to add to the jar, too; on behalf of a friend who reads the series and said it when I showed him the page.
You use that word. I do not think that you know what it means.
*hands over “THE jar”* Here ya go~
Amazing art, it’s so funny!
ps. I’m surprised to not see you contributing to the boycott of new Lobo (DC)…
So, if this were an entire Westoros cookout with all the noble houses, I guess the Lannister’s house quote would be “A Lannister never forgets the mustard”
(sorry, I couldn’t help myself)
A Game of Thrones Sitcom where all the characters play it straight? I can dig it.
I lol’ed.
I thought that was Canadian Guy for a moment.
I’m now disappointed that it wasn’t.
I’m sad now…
So my last name is Wiener… o_o <(lol)
this is funny as heck but it makes me sad at the same time T.T
Are you gonna write a comic about the “bishie-fication” of Lobo?
“I may not be a Stark by name but I still know how to grill like my father.”
“What are you doing to those burgers?”
“Pressing them. It makes them cook faster.”
“You know nothing, Jon Snow.”
I’m surprised there aren’re more food puns around here. You know, like “oh no, somebody knocked my bowl of Bran out the window!” or something.
A week and 110 comments and nothing about Ned Stark and six dachshunds instead of wolves maintaining “Weiners are Coming…”?
Disappoint.
Everyone forgets Rickon.
No apology necessary. It’s been stuck in my head all week.
No apology necessary. I welcome your subverting the line that’s been popping up in my head all week.
Ookay. Ignore the first post. Not as creative.
Mmmm…funny.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYzaXEK7kC0
Not a Game of Thrones fan, but funny. Really though, I think the punchline should’ve been a sh*tload of dachshunds charging across an open field towards them. Just, a veritable army’s worth of wiener dogs xD
Working my way through the archives, and this made chortle. Thanks!
No idea what the reference is, but yeah, I’m giggling. :) Actually that goes for most of the comic, I don’t need to know where Kratos comes from to get the jokes, or pyramid head for that matter. Maybe it’s because I basically wanted to be Judge Dredd when I was 12.
