Broody dark-skinned white-haired mage-hating warrior who knows his way around Seheron, regrets irrationally killing a group of people who nursed him back to health and has a thing for big two-handed swords. Think about it.
I actually liked Fenris as a character, People always complain that he was too emo or grumpy or whatever but uh… I think he’s kind of justified in it. “Gawd, why is he so hung up on that whole mutilated slave thing?”
Wooh, First! Keep the good stuff coming, man.
First? Seriously? Fuck off.
Wow, you mad?
FIRST!
You fourteen?
Hawke, I am disappoint.
I agree. She totally could have scored some Qunari ass. Taking the Fenris route out seems to just be laziness on her part.
i don’t play dragon age, but the dwarf isn’t romancable?
You can romance other characters if you are a dwarf in Origins, but there has yet to be a dwarf companion who can be a potential love interest.
Or Qunari I assume. Though judging from what you’ve told me about Sten’s conversation with Morrigan, it’d be the same reason Shepard could never hook up with a krogan or Joker: someone’s going to require serious hospitalization afterward.
I just assumed he was saying that for the lulz and to make her stop bugging her about it. Once you get past the Stoic Angry Warrior thing, Sten’s quite a smartass.
Apparently, having sex like that is against the Qun
According to some dev posts on the Bioware forums, the Warden’s relationship with Sten was pretty much his version of a romance. So, values dissonance for the win, it seems.
Could you honestly imagine Shepard hooking up with Wrex?
“Shepard”
“Wrex. Date?”
“SHEPARD.”
“WREX.”
“~KELLLYY!~”
I honestly thought you could plow anything in this Dragon Age. Dropped the game shortly after returning from the Deep Roads and at that point I thought I could flirt with anything with a name over it’s head.
You can flirt, but only Fenris, Anders, Merril, Isabella (and Sebastien if you have the expansion) will go for it.
Wow, if I were one of those that buy the game for the sake of romancing something, I’d be pretty mad right now because I can’t get it on with Aveline.
Didn’t occurred to me that you could flirt and get nowhere. It’s like… It’s like I’m RP’ing REAL LIFE! zomgosh!
PS: How do you make the most likeable guy in the cast NOT-romanceable? I feel bad for gals out there. At least, he can be my “bro”. And he is.
i was actually thinking about Sten’s conversation with Morrigan and how she would need armor and such. It confused me a bit, if he was joking or being serious, him being sten and all. because it sounds to me that qunari woman wont fight back because thats not there place, so why armor. so maybe morrigan being a mage (or saarebas) could have something to do with it. qunari mages are always bound so maybe its mandatory to wear the full thing when they are getting it on…… but i just could be over thinking this lol
He was totally trolling her to get her to shut up (Word of God and all)
As for the armour and the fighting back and the binding…well, who’s to say Qunari ladies aren’t just as ‘nuzzly’ as the men? >:D
I think he’s meant primarily as “Hawke’s Platonic Bro” without complicating things like that. Always thought that being able to plow anything with a name felt kinda stupid.
Then stop thinking.
I like thinking. You stop plowing.
I yearn for the day a company makes a game where NOTHING is left out. merely OPTIONalised. in character generation, offer a choice of ‘preferred mate-gender’ and percentage amount of how many in the rest of the game to match it. or something. for the detail-oriented, a list of every reasonably significant character that matches the chosen ‘inclination’, for the player to pick and choose who to have ‘accessible’ and not. :)
I just figure Varric was outta Hawke’s league.
Hawke’s gonna need a Greater Warmth Balm for that BURN!
And dozens of Stamina Draughts for the full night of pleasure.
Oh my God, that was hilarious. Also, my female character screwed Isabella, then Anders.
I would just like to say that you CAN flirt with her…and it IS possible to ‘sleep’ with all characters in a single game (except sebastian) but the catch is once u flirt with someone else, you can’t romance sebastian, and only 5 people (the 5 Coel listed) are romance-able in regards to a relationship….
That drives me bonkers. I love how they did the dwarves culture and personalities. I think that a romance sub-plot involving the dwarves would be really touching. As such, I really hope they have a romancable dwarf in DA3.
I wouldn’t hold out for a romancable Qun, though, but you never know.
Nice.
Well, alot of people are like that when it comes to moody characters. Shouting “OH, HE’S SO EMO.” without even giving any deeper thought about the backstory of the character, the age of the character during shocking events and etc. Why doncha all just go out and tell those kids that have had abusive parents to stop being emo? I’m sure that’ll help ’em! And it’s not like people are individuals with their different lives and strengths so it’s totally fair that people living in happy homes with others that love them and with their biggest worries being some dent in the car judge characters with scarred pasts.
Eeyup.
Personally, I liked Fenris, but I liked Varric, the Hawke brother and Merill more personally, so I went with them.
Moody characters can be hard to pull off without just really grating on people, however legitimate their backstories may be. They’re just overall challenging, and since they are fictional, it’s that much harder to take them seriously I guess. It can be done ‘right’, but a lot of the times you’re just going to get a character that makes everyone bury their face in their hands and mutter something about ’emo’. (Since for every kid who’s legitimately had a crappy childhood there’s probably ten who get pretty much everything they ask for while painting on the black eyeliner and wailing how no one understands them.)
((not trying to mock people who actually suffer but seriously, known my share of both types.))
Anyway they did say he was kind of justified, but that doesn’t mean people necessarily want to hear it constantly. [/random blather]
Everyone can go rage and disagree with me now.
Moody characters are easier to pull off when you experience their reason for anguish, such as Ezio Auditore in Assassins Creed II.
Speaking of Ezio, doesn’t he qualify as a manly guy?
Too many popped collars.
Aw man… Ezibro!
I posted about this down the way, but
Fenris is Wolverine.
Serioulsy, the exact same sort of story and angst.
People who can feel for Wolverine are probably the same people who can empathize with Fenris. I mean, since I could see where Fenris’ story was going, I felt bad for him. I felt triple bad in the end when he sided against me and I had to kill him. ::sadface::
Uh… I’m pretty sure Anders is the only one you can kill at the end unless you hacked the game. Fenris stays with you even if you choose to side with the mages.
If you don’t have Fenris at near 100% friendship or rivalry and side with the mages he will go with the other side and you have to kill him. It was so annoying. I tried to do the rivalry romance, but did a few nice things for him so the romance didn’t pan out and then I had to kill him…. :(
That’s weird, because I’m pretty sure my boyfriend was going for rivalry (Not even romance, just trying to irritate him), and he stuck around at the end. Maybe he only does it if he’s fairly neutral.
Yeah, rival or friend works out, he was full rival in my game but stuck around.
Did you try asking him to come back to your side? He abandoned me and all I had to do when I saw him again was ask him to come back. He looks at what’s her name says his sorries and comes strolling back to my side.
For me, he went over to side with the Templars, but when I mentioned that they meant to enslave the mages, his hate for slavery beat his hate for mages and he came back to my side.
Actually, I had to kill him too. I just ignored him throughout the game so I guess he only turns on you if the relationship bar mini-game isn’t leaning far enough into either direction.
Actually, Fenris can turn on you if you pick the mages’ side and don’t have max friendship/rivality with him or if you don’t pick the conversation option comparing what the Chantry is doing with slavery later on.
Merril and Aveline can alo turn on you (Merril if you pick the templars and Aveline if you pick mages) and don’t have a high enough score with them.
Whoops, I meant “also”.
Yeah, Aveline turned against me in my third play through, since I tried not to kill Anders (just to see what happens) and decided to support the mages. She turned on me so fast that I had to kill her in the courtyard of the Circle just before fighting Meredith.
Yeah, I didn’t have him all the way to best friends, so when I sided with the mages, he said he couldn’t condone my choice and we would have to part ways then and there. He disappears, and then later, he pops up to stop me with a host of other Templar. I had to put my arrow through his cranium, which made me uber-sad.
According to folks on the Bioware boards apparently all you have to do is ask him about his thoughts on slavery at some point in the game, no friendship or rivalry required. Then when you get to the point he wants to leave you tell him Meredith treats the Mages like slaves and he sides with you. Someone said they kept him with neutral friendship that way.
Personally I just sided with the Templars because fuck Anders. Meredith was gonna die either way.
Ah, that’s good to know.
Yeah, I kept him in my second play through. I was doiongg the “snarky” and “the conversation choices you didn’t pick last time” thing.
“Personally I just sided with the Templars because fuck Anders. Meredith was gonna die either way.”
I thought the exact same thing when I played through the game.
yeah, anders is an ass.
what’s that about loyalty and trust anders? YOU FUKKEN LIE TO ME ASSHOLE! after all i’ve done to mend the broken relationship between mages and templar and you just decide to blow the chantry.
fenris is an OK guy. i dont really like him per se, but hearing him banters with varric and isabella or other companion is fun sometimes. beside his voice reminds me of balthier.
That’s because his voice IS Balthier.
I loved Anders from Awakening…then he just turned into a whiny little twit. :|
Exactly!!!!!! I loved the goofy, live-life-drunk-and-naked Anders – what a total letdown when he becomes Mr. Terrorist Serious Jerk. My characters always love me, so I was really surprised when someone told me they turned on you… Now I kinda want to see who I can fuck up on my next game… >>
Yeah! What happened to awesome Anders? When I found out he was a companion AND romancable in DA2, I did the happy-jig-of-happiness. Now, I just do Fenris instead.
Anders and Justice were great in Awakening, which is the only reason I let that sonofabitch walk away alive at the end of the game. When he turned up to offer his help after I kicked him out I told him to shove it sideways and he slunk away never to be seen again.
… also chased away Isabella, lost Carver… Fenris was the only not-in-my-party help that stuck around in the end.
Ya well… screw your opinion. =p
The two things I wanted to do most in Origins … were to destroy the Qunari… and the Chantry. In both cases it is mostly because of the religious angle (and because I hated Sten’s guts)… but also somewhat because of the Mage situation.
In Awakening… Anders was the best character ever. Just … ever. So much glee.
Sooo…. they sorta made him worse in DA2 … made him a bit more emo, fused him with Justice… standard procedure for anyone romanceable in a Bioware game … BUT he was still Anders.
And I got to tell the Qunari how much I hate them (though their horns are cool)… AND Anders did his chantry thing, the only disappointment being that I didn’t get to do it myself.
BUT I did get to kill loads of Templars.
Actually, the best bit was that mission in Chapter 1 where you help the Sarabaas escape… and meet the party of Qunari on the other side…. and he totally wigged out that my party was 75% Mage (Anders, Merrill and Bethany)…
O’course I also did the obligatory demented bastard playthrough… where I played a Male Hawke, sided with the Qunari and the Templars, and was a huge, stupid, hypocritical bastard to everyone. I got the achievements. I moved on.
Oh yeah… and Fenris. Actually getting Fenris’s romance acheivement was like swallowing bleach. He looks alright, and he was good in combat… but could he shut up the mage-hate for two seconds? No he couldn’t. And then there was the whole Qunari thing. He had to die for that alone. The only worse character was Sebastian (sidenote: Sebastian’s response to Andersgate is absolutely priceless).
And that was because near the end he slowly went nuts! I can understand wanting to kill Meredith,(I’d probably even help the guy out) but the Grand Cleric? How did he make that large leap in logic?
I dunno. I haven’t played DA2 so I can’t judge this particular example, but even when a character’s whining is justified doesn’t mean it won’t get on your nerves, especially if it’s all they do.
I mean, if you have a friend who got raped and abused and is depressed because of that then sure you might be able understand the reason for their behavior and feel sympathy for them, but when every conversation you have with them somehow ends up being about that subject, it won’t be a person you’ll want to hang out with.
“when every conversation you have with them somehow ends up being about that subject”
Are you sure you haven’t played DAII?
If you’ve played a Bioware game, you know how the romances are going to pan out…
Ya! *runs into the night muttering about the popularity of Connor Kenway*
The impressive thing is that Commander and Jones have almost exactly the same expression on their faces after thinking about how sad that situation is. … Does this mean they’d have a threesome with Sten?
Agh. Down that path lies madness!
Madness?
This.
Is.
KIRKWAAAAAAAAAAAAAALL
Naw, that’s just the face everyone makes at me when I tell them Fenris was like a funsize Qunari.
What amuses me about that panel is the fact that, while Jones is stating what a sad story it is, the Commander seems to have diplomatically decided to just drink instead of expressing his thoughts on the matter.
Some times its best just to shut up and drink…
I love the picture of Shale and Cariden. Nice touch.
Persoally, I like Fenris. He and Varic are always my go to allies in DA2. Most of the others annoy me. Anders is way more “emo” than Fenris. I wish they left Anders like he was in DA:A. That was a fun Anders.
Tipsy Jonesy, aww.
Ahahaha they’re both tipsy. In the first run-through I had Commander slurring all his speech, but it made him a little too unintelligible…
In the first panel, it looked to me at first as though he was grabbing her boob. Made me giggle.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Fenris, because he never came across as someone ’emo’ just to be ’emo’, like a lot of other characters in video games. And if you play with him in your party the entire game, he isn’t as crazy fanatical anti-mage as he seems to be (he still sexes up mage!Hawke, ffs), or at least learns to defer to Hawke’s judgment when he starts trusting him/her.
But then again, I have a soft spot for all the characters, really. The cast was the best part of DA2.
…Are those Carridin and Shale in that photo behind Hawke? Drinking wee glasses of stuff?
GOOD SER MY DAY IS MADE
(And more seriously, I like Commander’s arm over Jonesy, too, in panel 1.)
>>Broody dark-skinned white-haired mage-hating warrior who knows his way around Seheron and has a thing for big two-handed swords. Think about it.
…BRB, making Jonesy’s ‘world-without-Rambo’ face.
I wonder if Caridin and Shale are doing shots, or just tiny pints in their massive golem hands…
Shale’s actually pretty small since her former master carved her down, she’s shorter than Sten.
But her hands are huge! Pigeons beware…
I pictured them doing shots. I mean, what’s the best way to celebrate a successful experiment (turning Shale into one of the first golems) if not to do a shot of Dwarven whiskey?
Like the Legacy White Shear? (http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Legacy_White_Shear) Drinking’s fun when you don’t have to worry about your innards!
I don’t know. They hint at Shale finding a way to turn back into a dwarf.
It could be a very old picture. I suspect it would be the rare person who could outdrink a golem!
I felt the same way while playing my F!Hawke. Sten, where art thou?
is it me or fenris is wearing anders costume? those fur on his shoulders made him look more emo. . .
I just used the concept art, he’s got raven feathers on the gloves and shoulders.
Commander’s left hand, first panel.
DOHOHO.
And Jonesy certainly doesn’t seem to object.
Yeah I never thought of the commander as one to go for the grope in public… always thought he’d do that sort of thing when they weren’t around others. Kinda made that frame feel slightly out of place, but with the drink I guess its not so bad of him…
He’s not groping, his arm is just slung over her shoulder. Groping implies boob-squishing action.
Sorry the hand looked curved to me, not just resting on there.
The hand’s actually lower than her boob is, the wrist is at chest-height.
Not to get caught up in semantics or anything but when you go for the grope when resting the arm on a shoulder like that and the girl is shorter, you usually rest the wrist where it comes out from the chest and lift the breast. Well I do it that way anyway. Sorry for turning your comments to smut, it wasn’t my intention, it was just that from the frame the way I saw it that’s how it looked.
I’d like to take this time since I don’t post comments often to say I’m still loving the story and am looking forward to the next one piece of the adventure. Thanks for taking the time to draw it for us.
Ah. That’s disappointing. I was like, “Go Commander go!” Nothing wrong with a quick grope to show her ya like her boobs! Who knows? Maybe you’ll get some action later!
I like Jonesy. She seems very laid back and cool. I like to think we’re kind of alike aside from both being brunettes with similar hairstyles.
Well, there’s one idea to look into to waste more of your precious time:
The world’s first 3D comic! Only effective on the 3DS! Less implied gropage that way!
…wait, that might be a bad thing…who would want less implied gropage?
VG cats already did a 3D comic. The comic might be irrelevant, but they still did it
I understood why Fenris was all upset and everything, but I really couldn’t get with his character. His entire entity reminded me of a JRPG character and the amnesia just didn’t help. If I had the choice to change his name, his name would have been Cloud. I think I resigned my F!Hawke to random flings with Isabella without ever letting her move into the house. Almost had a thing for Anders… Until I realized he’s a blatant Alistair clone. /huff
In other news… I’m glad to see the Commander and Jonesy together. <3
If you want to think of him differently, try relating him to Wolverine.
You know, volunteers for procedure, they pump him full of special metal (lythium), he loses memory, his masters make him do evil things, he gets tired of being a puppet and rebels. Even gets to fight his master, too.
I’m still bitter Alistair wasn’t an option for a gay romance. <_<
Oh yes he was. My friend, just for fun, tried sleeping with as many people as possible (including the dog). He managed to get Morrigan, Aliaster, and Zavern in the same play through.
Panel 1 made me feel all squiggly inside. <3
Well, Fenris, maybe if you tried to crack a joke occasionally…
Actually he does crack a few jokes. Varric particularly likes them.
I want your cheesiness and templar rants
You and me could have DA romance
…Argh, threading fail.
So, I haven’t finished his romance, but what I noticed about having Fenris in my party later on in the game during my Anders romance was that Fenris became totally more likable and fun. Other party members would invite him out and Fenris’ response would be “I wouldn’t miss it for the world!” while Anders suddenly stopped doing anything fun ever and was a constant drag to have around.
Even Fenris being broody and emotionally wrecked, he’s been less infuriating than Anders who was just broody and dead set against everything. (I still love Anders but dude, team fenris cmon)
Fun fact, apparently if you don’t hook up with Fenris or Isabella, they’re a couple by the third act.
So long as Fenris NEVER takes off his spiky armor. ^_^
Oh, Isabella, you wonderful, kinky whore.
He did, he made a crack at Varric’s lack of a beard and subsequently his abundant chest hair
Haven’t played Dragon Age, so I can’t comment on that. But I love the poses and expressions in the first and fifth panels.
I love this comic a little more each time you post. :D
I liked the Fenris character, his moody/emo nature fitted with his history. However, pretty much every other aspect really grated with me namely his art design and his romance option.
Fenris’s anime art style really didn’t fit with the Dragon Age world, I could accept it if it was implied to be the fashion in the Tevinter empire (Fenris’s home). It has already been revealed that the nations of the DA world had differing fashion tastes, the Fereldans were traditional medieval rpg peasants, the Orlesians were 17th century french fops but none of the other Tevinter characters in the game shared the Fenris’s fashion sense. To me the psuedo-anime thing just came off as an attempt to cash in on anime fan love.
As for the romance option, I played through as both genders (the female version was much better) and I always found the romances with both Anders and Fenris to feel forced. Their romance storylines seemed to start out of nowhere and I never really saw any chemistry between Hawke and either of them to consider a romance. Varric on the other hand…
Btw, I love how you’ve drawn Fem Hawke :)
Tevinter strikes me as DA’s Roman Empire, in a way.
Where slavery is still a large part of life, and power is freedom.
In the concept art Fenris actually looked fairly different, he had a broad chest, stubble, and either a beard or a beard tattoo. I’m sure the body changed because they seem to make all the companions with the character builder and he just ended up with the default male elf body. Can’t say why they ditched the facial hair, maybe they went with Tolkien elf rules or whatever where elves can’t grow hair below the eyebrows.
Ahahah maybe if he was a slave, his outfit is the Tevinter equivalent to a jester’s costume or something :P
There is a good chance that it’s not a Tevinter costume. He makes mention of Fog Warriors when he explains his past. He also seems to understand Qunari customs making me think that the costume is more likely an Elven/Qun costume.
I actually don’t think Fenris is really that moody/emo. Sure he seems like that at first but when you actually get to know him better he lights up and becomes less Broody.
That is the funniest thing I’ve seen all day…good old broody Fenris. :D
I do agree that he’s justified, but does he really have to be so cruel to Merrill?
And I still want to see him dance around his house.
ME TOO! When he talked about that with Varric, I totally believed him for a minute. I pictured Fenris doing things like leaping ballet-style through doorways, sliding down bannisters and doing little up-and-down-the-stairs numbers. All to whatever music he has rolling in his head.
Weapon of Choice starring Fenris.
He’s a major dick to Merrill, but it’s more in a you’re-going-to-get-yourself-killed-unless-you-do-something-different kind of way. He’s abrasive, but he thinks it’s for her own good.
Anders, on the other hand, is a dick to Merrill because he’s a complete tit.
He’s just trying to harden her so she can be the king of Ferelden.
When I think of Fenris dancing around his house, I think of him holding a spinning leek and dancing to the Loituma song.
…at first i thought the moody, anime-looking elf was the character from the second panel! then again, i’m unfamiliar with what’s being referenced.
Yeah, he’s in the photo in the background looking grumpy.
I am with your FemHawke, so, so much. I had some slight hopes when the mage qunari came along, but it became clear quite fast he was too devoted to the Qun to be recruitable. First Sten, now Varric and potential qunari in this game… Why must you always deny me the romance options I want, Dragon Age.
I also agree Fenris is one of the characters who has a good reason to be the way he is. However, my usual party was Fenris/Anders/RogueHawke/Varric, so by the time I was done with the game, I was so, so over both Fenris and Anders, who had the same damn party banter conversation 24 times with slight varieties in aggressiveness and individual douchebaggery, and I kind of came out of the game thinking of both of them as annoying. They are less one-note, though, when paired with other characters in my replay now. Well, Fenris is. But Anders’ actual personality is being swallowed/warped by a spirit of Justice, so… I guess he doesn’t really have a choice.
Yeah I was pretty dissapointed as well… I want my triple chocolate cake too! >:( They better make a romancable qunari in the next game! :D
I never had a problem with emo characters, at least in Bioware games (never tried any FF games). Remember the moaning about Carth? It seemed more entertaining having a party member who honestly thinks you could turn around and backstab them, makes for nice character development when he finally learns to trust you, even after later events.
Fenris DOES crack jokes, mostly with Varric or Carver, and they’re always deadpan.
PS. awesome Lady Hawke btw,
Hands down, my favorite manly comic.
I was looking for a new spray to use, panel 5 is now my new spray.
Or 4. Commander’s face is pretty good there.
I love the punchline, but “That is a very sad story” (With that expression!) probably is what I will remember this one for.
Insert joke about the size of the boat in the ocean and I just can’t.
I love this comic. I don’t even play video games and I love this comic.
last panel, middle row
Jonesy and Commander’s faces
PRICELESS
Everyone complains that Fenris is all broody and moody and emo and what-not, but have you ever listened to his banter with Aveline and Varric and Isabella? He pretty witty and hilarious. He has a huge chip on his shoulder, yes, but again it’s justified.
Also, he is no where NEAR as nerve grating as Anders of Sebastian.
Just sayin’.
Also Qunari love-interest next game, y/y?
Yeah, but when pair both Sebastian and Varric together, with Hawke tanking and Merril casting magic? I think I blew through the final battle with Meredith in like half the time that it took me the first time through. Since their max dam bows, Merril’s ability to slow people down and Hawke taunting everyone to chase him around.
Seriously, Sebastian’s bow skills with his focus ability and a really good bow can mow down most baddies.
While I can hope that there may be a Qunari love-interest, I believe the next game is in Orle (or however you spell it) since Bioware mentioned it in an article in a magazine. The chances are slimmer there than in Kirkwall or Fereldan. Which would make me sad.
Yeah, in-game Bodhan says he’s taking Sandal to Orlais soon, so they’re pretty much flat-out saying it’s going to be there. Which is a shame because Orlais Is probably the country I care the absolute least about. I’d much rather see Tevinter or one of the Qunari countries. I think it’d actually be cool if they took an origins approach to the character and have a bunch of different first acts to choose from with like, all the mages starting in Tevinter, all the Rogues starting in Antiva, and all the warriors starting in Seheron. Plus, that would finally give us an in for playable Qunari. You could even get multiple version like they did with city elf/dalish elf and noble dwarf/poor dwarf. Do it like “Nobel mage or apprentice ex-slave mage” “Antivan Crow or Street rat bandit” and “Qunari Tal’Vashoth or Thedan Resistance soldier”
Man, I’d love to see the game in Antiva. I’ve always wanted to know what it would be like to have an adventure there.
Who knows? Maybe they’ll do another one or two games in the Dragon Age world even if they aren’t Dragon Age: Sten Goes to Washington.
They have made a pen and paper Dragon Age RPG, though. I hear in the second set, they show you what is in all the other nations.
>> Dragon Age: Sten Goes to Washington
I’d play dat.
He has to wear a suit and tie and learn diplomacy.
With a two-handed sword and dreadlocks.
We make you suffer because we love you, kadan. *bats eyelashes*
OTOH he can probably get cookies more easily in Washington. And cupcakes, and other such sweet things.
I’ve never played the Dragon Age games and I know little about the world, but I tried out the pen-and-paper RPG at a convention and it’s a seriously fun system. I’ve had to add Dragon Age to my list of Games To Buy When I Have Money And Time
Semi unrelated; I think Mr. Fish could make a good ‘Me Gusta’ face.
Int he first panel is Commander Badass coping a feel? Or am i just totally dirty minded?
I was thinking the same really x)
I figured it was just the standard wrist-on-shoulder, which can be misconstrued as-is, adjusted for those tankards.
Hurrhurr, “tankards”
My issue with Fenris is that after what, six years of living in that mansion, he NEVER BOTHERED TO PICK UP THE CARCASSES STREWN ABOUT HIS HOME. Come on man, you have to care at least a little
Yeah, I was planning to do a comic about that in the future :P
I would love to see that so much. Just saying.
Maybe he likes the smell?
i always thought he left it there so when some intruders came in, they would see the body then run for their life. “lest this be a warning to all!” kinda thing
I now have visions of Fenris as the Godfather… :3 Maybe he also has special horses he can put in people’s beds.
Or maybe those carcasses are decorative.
It’s clear that Fenris is Dragon Age’s Wolverine.
They imbued him with a special metal (lyrium) that gives him special powers and makes him harder to kill. During the process of imbuing him with the metal, he forgets about his former life (which I shall not spoil for those who want to play DA2). They use him to do all sorts of terrible things (Weapon X). He runs away, they want him back under the pretense that they want the metal in his skin back. He takes revenge on them after being used like a puppet to do bad things. He’s angsty, he hates mages who made him this way.
And while he seems like a guy women would want to date, it never works out (in Wolverine’s case, they all seem to die). LOL
I love the little Wall of Fame in the background. The picture of Caridin and Shale is all LMAO.
Following this line of thinking, this would imply that Anders is Cyclops and Fem!Hawke is Jean Grey…
Their stories are not as close to any Marvel character as Fenris is to Wolverine.
Seriously – I could write Wolverine’s story out in a very general sense and it would fit Fenris to a T.
And have at least twice on this page already :P
What can I say?
I’m thorough. LOL
Nice hand placement in the first panel.
After playing through DA:O and then DA2 again, I have a different opinion of mages in general, and Fenris in specific. I did think he was just too broody the first time through, but I also didn’t have the same perspective that came from having played the first game. I ended up liking Fenris a lot better in the end, and he’s a MUCH MORE INTERESTING romance option than Anders. At least he has a sense of HUMOR! -_-
I love that “Champions” photo. Varric doing an almost-handstand is hilarious. And is Fenris missing his red scarf on the wrist? Isn’t that a little like taking off the wedding ring?
Also: Clearly sarcastic Hawke.
I think Varric’s doing a – wait for it –
BARREL ROLL
*ba dum dum kish!*
Dwarves do the best keg stands! Atleast the ones who keep their hair pulled back and don’t have beards to get in the way soooo… pretty much just Varric! XD
Eh, I was just reffing it off his concept art and totally forgot about it.
Oh! I thought it was a subtle “The honeymoon is VERY over” kind of thing. :p
…. Are they in the Hanged Man?
Yes. This. A thousand times, this. At least Fenris is the least ffs-worthy of the romance options…
The commanders face in the 4th and 5th panels… XD
The thing that bothered me most about Fenris was that his neck looked too thin in the middle, like there was an invisible hand trying to throttle him the whole time. That, and the fact that he was never going to be Varric, who was just awesome.
To the Void with your qunari. I’m still waiting for my dwarfmance. ;)
I figure since in DA:O you can BE a dwarf and romance people, that’s still better than you’ve got with Qunari.
But that would mean playing something other than a City Elf, which is a sacrifice I’m not prepared to make.
I’d say the dwarf commoner origin has a similar level of heartache to the city elf. Give it a shot! :3 Then you can do like I did, and have a beefy hunky saucy dwarf flirting with everyone you meet.
For me, the best origin was the Dwarven Noble. I mean, I felt for that character. It helps that it was the first playthrough for me as well. Pity it was at an internet cafe so I don’t have access to the save… oh well now that I own the game I have to play through it again.
I second Sasuga’s suggestion (OK, OK, I’m completely biased. I love my f!Brosca to pieces, even if her build’s a wee bit wonky.) Your heartache may not show up during your origin story, but it sure did for me when I went back to Orzammar!
Dwarf commoner was the best. I had a short haired chubby little dwarf with stubble that was an asshole that flirted with everything. XD I feel a little bad about sleeping with Leliana after sleeping with Morrigan and Zevran; it’s like I gave her evil magic underground elf herpes or something.
And then I remembered that I couldn’t have a romance with Alistair and didn’t care anymore.
“The elves are a lithe, pointy-eared people who excel at poverty.”
Exdeath, Is that you? What are you doing here? I thought I chopped you into a Pencil+1!
I love Fenris <3
He was my first romance of the game but I would totally drop him for Varric in a heartbeat.
I actually saw no resemblance of him to a Qunari other than that he could speak the language.
And he DOES actually gamble with Donnic and Varric. And he dances from room to room in his mansion :D
I think Fenris especially gets an exception to the rule, seeing as how he can’t remember anything from before the procedure, any happy memories he may have had. Not even a gradual toughening of the metaphorical skin to block out the worst of his pain/rage/whatever. He has no real identity other than this slave-warrior-monstrosity.
What I respect about all of the characters in DA2, especially Fenris, is that they all have their flaws, and make no apologies or excuses for them. I love the dialogues you overhear between Fenris and Anders; they each loathe each other and have justifiable reasons for their prejudice.
Actually, my favorite conversations involving Fenris, aside with Varric, are with Sebastian. At one point, Fenris is actually debating religion with Sebastian, and the prince says something along the lines of, “So you have been researching Andraste and the Chantry,” and he’s all like, “Uh, what? No … Um, maybe a little?” It’s like Sebastian almost gets through to him several times, and makes Fenris admit that he has thought about his own mortality.
Essentially, with Sebastian, Fenris waxes a bit philosophical. Which is a side you don’t really get to see when he’s bashing people in the face with a two-handed weapon.
I did forget about that; I got those conversations on my first playthrough, but found Sebastian a little preachy so I didn’t bother playing with him again (though I did enjoy the character development). Plus, I really only needed one rogue/archer and I definitely preferred Varric.
I think I enjoyed most of the character dialogues, with the exception of Fenris/Merryl. She needed a good kick in the head, yes, but Fenris was just plain vicious. It just reminded me of Alistair and Morrigan. Okay, yes, you’re determined to dislike each other or otherwise disagree. After the third time it sort of loses its charm.
…I love Jonesy’s reply. “That! Is a very sad story.”
Her voice comes across as strangly enunciated drunk.
…Who won the chest hair contest?
In the end, the journey was what mattered.
…But the Journey wasn’t nearly long enough
Would be pretty cool if 50 comics later someone brought it up and the person in question yelled that “It was just a technicality!” or something of the sort.
Is the Commander copping a feel there in the first panel?
Naw, he’s just got big gorrilla arms.
Pft. Go and ruin the fantasy why don’t you?
Some would say that’s an integral part of the fantasy. ;3
Man, Lady Hawke, at least you get to LOOK at male Qunari. I just got one picture of a female Qunari. >:|
I guess it’s more than uh… female Krogan fans have?
ME3 is totally gonna have female Krogan.
TOTALLY. >:|
From what I saw of the E3 footage, it’s going to have a lot of females period.
And Ashley let her hair down. I approve.
Hahaha!
I ha d a lot of fun trying to hook Fenris up with my mage. THAT was a riot.
Though I think my Ander loving male warrior brought more laughs, heheh.
Anyway, this was funny! Especially the bit about the Qunari. I love all of your Dragon Age comics!
Dammit I made a Rogue. I missed out on all the fun!
Well, you can always play through again, right? I actually made one of each class, each with a different personality type so that I could try to get the most out of the game. My favorite though turned out being my sarcastic gay warrior, but my rude mage had my favorite companion story.
Even the women are looking especially manly today.
I’m sorry, next week maybe everyone will have big pink bows, false eyelashes, giant tits, and hooker makeup so as not to confuse you.
+1 for Coela
I’m sorry, you said everyone, and I’m not prepared to see the Commander in giant tits and hooker makeup. *shudders*
On the other hand, can we get this comic please?
YES YOU MUST DO THIS!!!!!
Hey now, I never said I objected to that. I approve of manly women and it is entirely appropriate in context.
And after Fenix in a bikini, that might be the logical next step…
The funny thing is: Hawke is manlier than him
lmao ah Hawke, you tell the truth we all want to hear… well not everyone apparently lol
you just help me firgure out why i like fenris so much, thank you.
I can’t decide whether my favorite part is Varric’s kegstand or Cmdr’s intense drinking stare in panel five.
Fenris was one of my favorite characters in the game. I mean shit, sexiest-voice ever besides, I very much enjoyed his lack of ‘HEY GUYS REMEMBER HOW COOL THE WARDEN WAS!?’
One of my friends pointed out that Fenris’s voice was really the saving grace that caught him before he turned into a complete stereotype and I really think he was right about that. Something about the raspy nasal tone gave him a bit of a different spin, like put him closer to a Jason Statham type of character than a SquareEnix Gackt clone.
Oh man, you should throw Gackt in a comic one day, I imagine that would be amusing.
I kind of have plans, but it is a long storyline I want to have written before I start drawing it.
Even just that little bit sort of made you my hero.
You don’t know how happy the thought of what you said makes me…
You can make fun of his official Final Fantasy self, Genesis, in the process.
I always made sure to keep Fenris in my party for one simple reason. Gideon FUCKING Emry.
It’s like listening to chocolate made by Sean Connery cooked in the burning fires of epic.
I love your use of angles, seriously. Most webcomics would show a static shot of the four of them at the bar for several panels in a row. I don’t think you use the same shot once. It’s the little things~
On the topic of DA2, I don’t think the concept of Fenris is bad. On paper, yeah, he’s totally justified, but DA2 had a problem with taking your party, giving them one thing to be obsessed with, and have them focus on it the whole damned time. It goes like this:
Isabela — Sex
Fenris — Magic’s evil
Anders — VIVA LA MAGE REVOLUCION!
Carver — Massive inferiority complex
Sebastian — Would you like to hear about our lord and savior Andraste?
Merill — Being naive
Aveline — The motherfuckin’ law
In concept, they’re all complex and interesting characters, but after X number of hours where 85% of their dialog is on one subject, it begins to wear on you. For instance, Merril’s wide eyed innocence (which came out of nowhere for me, having played a Dalish elf in the first game) was fun at first, then I seriously began to question if she was actually mentally handicapped. This holds especially true when they’re obsession is a particularly dreary subject and the character has a militant stance to it. That got to me with Fenris and Anders. I seriously just couldn’t stand either of them by twenty hours in.
The only one who really gets away with it is Aveline in my opinion, because her morals and status as Guard Captain applied to almost every situation you got in, and usually in an interesting way. She might have the most commentary of any party member in the game. As an aside, she gets bonus points for being the only person in Kirkwall who doesn’t want to take a ride on the Hawke Express and for being a “battering ram in the shape of a woman” (at least Isabela has some quips…)
Varric, of course, escapes the trap entirely being that he’s completely awesome.
Just my two cents. Carry on.
It might be because Varric really didn’t have an agenda, he was just kind of your wingman who reminded you that sometimes SLAUGHTER AND EXTORT wasn’t the best solution to your problem.
Wasn’t he telling your story so one could say this is version of those characters.
Also, Hawke love of Qunari(and bug eye commander) brings me back to new Qunari are hipster comic.
I always thought Varric was along for the ride because he “had a feeling interesting things would happen around you (Hawke).” As in he could see that your character was going to create a lot of havoc and profit, so why not?
His easy-going attitude and the fact that he had a small conscience helped out a lot, too.
But like Random Guy said, it’s Varric’s version of the story. He may be churching up his role and reactions to appear to be a nicer guy. It’s very unfortunate that the Champion must have done something that eventually made Varric leave his side. I’d like to know exactly what that was, but alas.
IS IT JUST ME, or is the commander toooootally copping a feel in panel one? >_>
I love Fenris! Just curious, have you considered doing a THE PLIGHT OF THE MAGEZZZZZ comic for Anders? I accidentally romanced him the first time (he looks like Alistair and I’m shallow) and I swear he said that at least 30 times.
Love the comic! Almost creepy stalker love!
Too bad I haven’t played DA2. Hells, I haven’t even finished the original, since my computer went and died on me and I never got around to reinstalling it and starting over.
Reading the comments, some people are comparing Fenris to Cloud, and I would have to hope that he’s nowhere near as bad. Hell, out of all the Final Fantasy games I played, one of the only characters who deserve to be all dark and brooding is Cyan Garamonde from 6. He lost his wife, son, and whole nation to a crazed lunatic, but he managed to get over it and even start corresponding with another woman later on. Hell, he’s probably one of the only Final Fantasy characters with the pectoral girth to be accepted as a manly guy (and Sabin Figaro, the martial artist who can suplex a train!), considering he’s a knight in full plate armour. I wonder how the Commander would react to such a well-adjusted, polite, yet powerfully muscular man?
Oh, and I forgot to mention, Cyan had to watch the ghosts of his wife and son depart for the other side, so he did not even have the hope of their spirits maybe sticking around with him. He truly lost everything he had loved. And still he managed to remain cheerful and polite (after a brief bout of heart-wrenching despair and sadness). That takes a level of manliness that is nearly impossible to match.
Sabin was a pretty cool guy.
Yes, he was. There was a guy who wouldn’t take shit from no one.
I’m still hoping for a Qunari LI next game.
((Especially a mage one, because for some reason I find the sawed off horns cooler than the normal ones.))
I’m probably going to get flamed for asking this but I’m curious. You said in the past that you were afraid of the site becoming “thepunchlineiskratos.com” by having him appear too often but…*points to the blog title* …you’re okay with that?
Just bein’ self-satyrical before someone else points in out.
I heard from a very good source that Thepunchlineisthewarden.com would be coming very soon and covering all origins, probably making a new Qunari origin.
Confirm/Deny.
its true. its not really emo if you have actually suffered horrible torment.
Oh god, why would you ever, EVER want to sleep with a Quanar? Theyre like the fantasy version of a really fundamentalist splinter group from the Republican party or something. It’d be like sleeping with a demonic Glenn Beck.
Sometimes, the idea of corrupting someone like that can be tasty. |3
It’s funny because Quanri are pseudo-Islamic communists.
3 words. Horns as handlebars.
And here I thought Fenris was one of the coolest guy to keep around in the party for the time I played. Only one that would let me do whatever the hell I wanted and bro-fist me every time (BFF+1 for every choice). Opposed to Alistair, who would have me pick flowers for the whole town and hug every citizen or Dislike my comments. I don’t even play “asshole Hero” and Alistair was still somehow cramping my Warden’s style.
At least they made the rivalry thing here, now I could act however I truly wished without fear of my party crumbling because I lost a member– Oh wait my healer sister just died and I hate Anders. Goddammit.
“Come on, I’m right here.”
“You heard me.”
Friendship+5
PS: Effin’ love Hawke in “Our Champions”.
good comic. were you planing on making a comic about mass effect?
The only joke I can think of for that would be something like this:
SHEPPARD: The Geth – they seem to be rather ineffective minions for planet eaters.
ZAEED: These blokes seem to die fast enough.
JOKER: Maybe they’re shooting blanks?
*crickets*
Yeah, I can’t really think of a good joke, but I’m sure there are good ones out there in the universe.
Mutilated slave that chose and actually for to the death for the chance to be mutilated? Never was motto “To each his own” better suiting.
Fenris is compared to Wolverine, but at least Wolverine was imprisoned and forced into becoming a test dummy.
But than again – arguing about non-real people’s histories and personalities should be second worst way to waste time in the world.
*and actually fought to the death*
Sorry.
I’m not completely sure that first statement was supposed to be in English, but “volunteered himself in exchange for his family’s freedom” and “thought it could be fun for shits and giggles” are two different concepts. That’s kind of like saying “people who volunteer for medical testing to feed their children are the same thing as drug addicts”
Wolverine volunteered to be a part of Weapon X. Before he was Wolverine, he was a soldier who did everything he was told by the military. He volunteered to become Weapon X because they promised to leave his friends and family alone (this was revealed just recently, since Wolverine remembers bits and pieces of his life over decades of Marvel storytelling).
Almost verbatim with Fenris.
See, this could have all been avoided if you’d only done that choreography routine you were talking about, Fenris. Then you’d just be gay. …Like Anders. :T Nevermind. Stay broody, good fellow.
Funny as all hell; that is all. XD
Not gonna lie. I totally tried to go to dragonagecomics.com
Curse your lying lies.
hmmm a 10/10 comic about a 4/10 game.
Coelasquid, is it just me or has your artwork suddenly hit a new level? I’m no artist, but the detail in this strip is fantastic. Love Hawke’s expression in panel 6.
Hey, that was almost exactly what I thought! I hope there will at least be a Tal Vashoth companion in DA3.
I played through the game as a (mostly) straight male Hawke, but can I presume that this green-tinged armor we see Fenris wearing is his “you’ve sexed me” outfit?
Naw, it’s just based on the concept art. If you sleep with him he just ties a red band around his arm.
I love how Shale and Caridin are on the Wall of Fame. lol
So, in Dragon Age, the dwarf is the fun loving rogue guy, and the elf is the grumpy one (even without being a drow). Fun. I’ll have to play it.
Elves have always been kind of stodgy, they’re just pretentious enough that people mistake the stick up their bum for a inborn sense of mystery. What we need to see in the next Dragons Age is a few GNOMES. Those guys know how to have a good time.
Only acceptable if you get to punt them.
Well, Origins _does_ give you a fabulous, smooth and seductive bi elf…as well as the funny drunk dwarf who swears by the tits of his ancestors. Take your pick!
That was a pretty damn funny strip, but I laughed harder at some of the comments made. Incredible.
I’m not sure how I feel about Fenris. On the one hand, he is totally justified for being messed up, but it really feels like they could have handled him better. If they didn’t have him dealing with his past like an anime character, for lack of a better term, I think I would’ve liked him a lot more. With Sten, who coped with his guilt in a pretty interesting way, I can’t help but think of Fenris as DA’s Sasuke equivalent.
I didn’t hate the guy or anything, though. Out of the romance options, he certainly seemed like the most tolerable one.
I think it depends on who you keep on your party. If you have Anders, Anders is a stupid cunt who spends the whole time dogging on him about how his former master should have killed him, how he should act more like a slave, how he should commit suicide, and how he should think more highly of mages. So obviously that dialogue is going to be a bit of a downer (for the record, Anders approves if you trade Fenris back into slavery and disapproves if you protect him. He also accuses Fenris of “just being jealous” of mages when he finds out that his sister was trying to use him as a bargaining chip to land herself a spot as an apprentice mage with his former master. And tells Hawke that Fenris is an uncontrollable dog on the same quest he lies to her to send her on a fetch quest for ingredients he needs for the terrorist bomb he uses to blow up the church)
If you have other characters in the party he talks about gambling and boy’s nights out and getting tits tattooed on his chest and dancing and Dalish Cluture and Chantry scriptures and chest hair and fisting and all that.
Gotta say though, I am a fan of most of his dialogue with Varric;
Fenris: I don’t brood.
Varric: Friend, if your brooding were any more impressive, women would swoon as you passed. They’d have broody babies in your honor.
One of my personal favorites is:
“Dear Varric, please learn to parry. Love, your innards.”
Or when Anders talks about Sebastian’s belt (which has Andraste’s face on the buckle), he says, “I wouldn’t want to face the Maker with his wife’s face on my crotch.”
But Varric gets all the good one-liners:
– Opinions are like testicles, you kick ’em hard enough and it doesn’t matter how many you’ve got.
– Hawke may be the Champion of Kirkwall, but who’s everybody’s best buddy? Me.
– Would you like me to draw a picture of where she wants to touch you?
– Andraste’s dimpled buttcheeks!
Oh, wow. The group I used probably had a lot to do with it, then– I had Fenris, Anders, and Varric together pretty much the entire game. While I think I may’ve gotten maybe ONE Fenris/Varric conversation, the majority of it was Fenris and Anders going back and forth being completely inflexible and grating with each other, basically spewing the same rhetoric on different sides. I think if I got to hear some of the less heavy stuff peppered in with all anti-mage angst, I would’ve probably ended up liking him a lot more. Second playthrough time, I guess!
And god, Anders was terrible. I kind of liked him in Awakening, and it felt like the whole Justice taking him over thing was a really flimsy way of getting around making him a completely different character. If they would’ve showed him changing bit by bit, or at least STRUGGLING with what he was becoming, I think I might’ve been able to sympathize at least a little, but it felt like they just went ahead with completely changing him around and stuck a lousy tacked-on explanation to it at the end. And seeing how I had him be a blood mage in the last game (and his response to the templars now having a reason to hunt him down was more or less “well I wasn’t a blood mage when they STARTED chasing me, haha~”), it felt kinda insulting how the game didn’t even address that while he was getting all up on Merril for HER use of blood magic.
So how would you cope with having been a slave to a man in a country that has little to no laws other than “Every man for himself” and “Magic IS law?” That is, if Feynriel’s letter is anything to go by and I’m pretty sure it is. Hypothetically speaking, of course, since this is a game and Fenris is a fictional character.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, I totally think he’s justified in being as messed up as he is. They did a good job with the guy’s back story– it just felt to me like he could have been a little deeper, and you see his type of character a LOT in video games. Of course, now that I’m reading through a lot of these comments, it sounds like a big part of my problem with him was due to the limited interactions I had. Aside from the main story, side quest, and romance scenes, a lot of the conversations revolved around him and Anders going back and fourth due to how my party was arranged– which may’ve given me a kind of one-dimensional view of the guy. I think I may have to play the game again without Anders in the party all the time to get a better sense pf him.
am I the first to relise that he has his hands on her boob?
was looking and waiting for people to say somthing about his arm draped over her
If you even you know… did a text search on the comments, you don’t even have to read them, you’d realize you’re far from it.
how do you do a text search?
Ctrl + F will do ya. :3
o heh, sorry
the thought just didnt cross my mind to do a Ctrl+ F
my bad
I didn’t think much of Fenris at first, but I admit he grew on me. At least he’s not Anders. Though I gotta say, there were times where I just wanted to grab his shoulders and yell at him that, like most of Thedas, Kirkwall isn’t Tevinter.
I also don’t really see Fenris as relationship material, at least not during the game. The guy doesn’t really know who he is or what he wants (other than ‘not be a slave’). He’s got a lot of stuff to figure out before I’d consider hooking up with him.
It makes sense in a lot of ways. As a slave, he never had freedom, and he never had to make decisions for himself. When he originally escapes, it’s not a problem, he has the obvious drive to get away from the people who wanted to kill/re-capture/remove-lyrium-from-flesh him, but aside from that he doesn’t have any place to start from. He forms relationships and orders his life around avoiding capture, because he doesn’t have anything else, until he meets Hawke at least. He gets to know the other companions, becomes friends, and sticks around Kirkwall for the next decade. But it’s mostly based around needing other people to give him purpose, which would explain why he’s willing to follow Hawke anywhere and support just about any action, no matter how much he disapproves. Same goes for most of the characters, they value the direction even Asshole! Hawke gives them too much to act on their dislike of his/her behaviour, to one extent or another. Anders and Aveline are possible exceptions, but they do seem to depend on Hawke for a lot of their psychological support, love him or hate her. He’s just that sort of girl. She causes trouble everywhere he goes, but everyone seems to love her for it, because they can’t live without him.
I noticed it as well, first panel, first thing i saw
Curse you guys. You’ve brought on the memories, and now I have to go on another Dragon Age Bender, starting from square one with the first game…
Panel 5 is brilliant.
I loved the first Dragon Age, played through the entirety of Origins and Awakening with all of the DLC, did every single side quest that I could… But I have absolutely no desire to Play DA2. I’m not sure why.
that boy needs therapy.
seriously he needs therapy for his random brooding. and living in a mansion thats broken down instead of fixing it. hell throughout the game he has years to do it
Wow… I think I just caught a bad case of the derpes from reading stuff about a game that I’ve never played XD
Yeah, every face in this one is excellent.
also I thought at first coelasquid meant sten (ps:sten means rock in swedish) at first. being white haired and dark skinned and killed people who helped him
oh and used two handed swords.
what I dont get about fenris is that he has the power to PUNCH PEOPLE THROUGH THEIR STOMACH yet was a slave for so long? I cant remember but there might be some lore that he finaly used his lyrium infused body to become stronger finaly and learnt how to control it? I dont know…
well hopefully new dlc might explain it, or at least ANY dlc would be happely recieved.
They explain it in game if you go through the right conversations. Without any memory of his time before becoming a slave (recall that the process of putting lyrium into his skin gave him amnesia), he didn’t know anything else. For the longest time, he accepted his slavery because it simply seemed natural to him, and the thought that he might be able to escape or build a different life never entered his mind until he met a group of rebels in somewhere-or-other. That’s planted a seed of doubt that germinated for a while until he finally mustered the gumption to up and flee.
I just re-read my post. What is happening to my grammar?!
I love Sarah’s face in the fifth panel. I might be imagining it, but she seems to be at the stage of drunkenness when you feel all Serious Business over the well-being of others. It’s really quite sweet, if so.
<o< You don't mean Jonesy by any chance? ;P
The joke sounds like “The Qunari cake is a lie!” XD
Where is the romanceable Qunari? I was told there would be romanceable Qunari! The romanceable Qunari is a lie.
::sigh:: I kinda really wish I could own that picture of Hawke and Varric doing keg stands that is the background of panel two. There is just so much awesome going on there.
I have read most (Read As: skimmed half) of the comments and nobody has even mentioned what bothers me most about this comic. How in the hell would Hawke know about Snickers if they were in [insert name of where DA2 takes place here]? Shit like this keeps me up at night.
Think of this whole world like Roger Rabbit with games, comics, and movies included.
*Liked
I liked Fenris, he was a good bro, and a good fighter.
I played through as a mage character, and avoided any come ons to Fenris. In the end, he makes a, though grumpy and sad, line.
“Oh yes, a Mage as my best friend.”
I’m your ‘Best Friend’?
Wow, Hawke seems like a real bitch, publicly badmouthing her boyfriend. Especially with him right next to her.
Maybe I should mention now that I haven’t played any Dragon Age and am judging the character purely based on this strip.
Hawke can be as much of a bitch as you want her to be, you choose her dialogue. The game gives you four (or five) characters to be romantically involved with if you so chose. Their personalities can be summed up as “I USED TO BE A SLAAAAAVE”, “I’M A STEREOTYYYYPE”, “MY PARENTS ARE DEEEEAD” “THE ONLY WAY ANYONE COULD POSSIBLY FIND ME LIKEABLE IS BECAUSE I HAD A CAT IN THE LAST GAME”, and “OOPS I ACCIDENTALLY GENOCIDED MY WHOLE TRIBE, OH WELL!” with all the really interesting characters being unattainable. Fenris seems like the kind of guy you would turn into an old married couple with pretty quick, because on one hand he’s kinda pissy and gets wrapped up in his own head a lot (including the point he gets so lost in his issues he leaves you because he can’t deal, then comes back three years later saying he wants you back, hoping you waited for him), and he seems like the only love interest who cares about monogamy. Not saying that’s bad, but by comparison to the other characters who are all off having their three-ways, that’s downright settled in.
THIS. It’s what I’ve thought since the first game.
Dammit Bioware give us a STEN to screw and stop with the whiney girly men with ‘dark brooding pasts’ already >:I
Ouch, that was kinda harsh, Hawke.
So wait, this elf is Scar without red eyes? Really, Fullmetal Alchemist has enough guys who could benefit from this agency that I’m disappointed I haven’t seen some already.
I too was immediately reminded of Scar by the comment under the comic.
And speaking of fun-size snickers, this comic gave me a few: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uSTOHa4Im4
Is it just me, or is Commander copping a feel in Panel 1?
