This is the worst Edgeworth I’ve ever drawn
Okay! So I’m back from Canada and I have my home computer setup again! So the colour is back! But it’s still a pretty quick comic because I finally picked up these guys!
So I devoted a lot of free time this week to tending to the needs of fancy pigeons.
ANYWAYYYYY yeah, I really love Pheonix Wright games and I spent a lot of my time riding trains and buses in Canada working through the fancy HD collection they released in the iTunes store (only $15 or something like that for all three games! Go go go go go go go go! They say if people buy more iOS games we have a better chance of getting AAI2 translated!) and it never ceases to frustrate me when cases have HUGE OBVIOUS GLARING HOLES in them that you aren’t allowed to point out because that’s just not how the items in your evidence roster work.
Also it is my birthday today so hooray for me I made it to 26.
Happy Birthday!
Can you let the pigeons out at all? Do they home, or would letting them outside be a terrible idea?
It’s a cool pet, I’ve never owner birds before. I’ve had cats/dogs/rabbits, but never a bird.
Do all pigeons home? Or is it only certain breeds? Never owned anything but cats myself.
All pigeons will home, as long as you give them time to realize where ‘home’ is. Some breeds are definitely better at it than others. If you’ve only kept them inside, you can’t just shove them out the door and expect them to find their way back–they need to have landmarks.
I have some fancy pigeons of my own. I personaly never let them out, because hawks are super bad in my area. BUT, from what I understand, the more pigeons you have, the less likely any individual is going to be eaten by hawks (because pigeons defend by being so numerous the predator gets confused). I’ve heard from people who free fly their birds, and apparently you use a few birds every year from predation, and you just have to deal with it. That would drive me crazy though… I was sad enough when one of the babies didn’t make it to adult-hood.
Sounds like why some people can’t play Pikmen.
Happy birthday! And congratulations on your fancy pigeons. I’ve been excited to see all the updates on them on tumblr.
And Commander, I don’t think you understand the concept of “Decisive Evidence”. It (apparently) means you can only respond directly to the prosecution or the witness’s statements, and only with objects you’ve found at the crime scene. That doesn’t mean you can go around introducing your own arguments based on something as flimsy as logic.
Happy birthday, I like the things you put up here.
Happy brithday!
^Typos… :P
But it will work if you’re in London (Brit-hday. LOLs)
Happy birthday! How much is that in American years?
But neither of them is the fattest pigeon.
Also, happy birthday!
Patience…Coelasquid hasn’t had them long enough to overfeed them yet.
One of these days I should get around to playing one of those lawyer games.
I remember that mission. It was the first one in Justice For All. Dude choked himself with his own damn scarf.
The only flaw of this comic, is the lack of Godot/Diego Armando, but it can be forgiven, because he’s probably off getting coffee, or spending time with the Kitten.
So basically you’re, *puts on sunglasses*, waiting for Godot?
;)
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
^
YEEAAAHHHH!!!!! XD
Just a trivia, but Godot is a name too in Indonesia ^_^
I am happy that Gumshoe gets to go out and have drink with the guys.
You know how sometimes you find out someone’s age and suddenly you feel really weird because they’re way younger than you and also totally cool?
…Anyway, happy birthday, love the pidgies :)
I’m someone who understands that feeling…I just found out that she’s half my age at this point.
…Wait, you’re… *grabs calculator AND abacus* 52?? O_O;;
Correct…You don’t need to confirm it on a slide rule as well.
Happy Birthday!
The case that confused me the most was the second case from that same game. I had a hard time mentally keeping track of who entered the room when for some reason. I still have a nagging feeling it didn’t actually make sense.
On the other hand, that case also gave me my proudest Ace Attorney moment. I figured out the significance of the driver’s license photo as soon as I saw it. When I told my brother what I figured out, he was unable to keep a straight face because it took him much longer, confirming I got it right.
HA! I knew I wasn’t the only one who had immediately figured it out! Hooray!
No, seriously, everyone I know who’s played it took a while to figure out the significance of it and what it had to do with the case…
I basicly played the audiobook version of 9-9-9, with my brother playing it over Ventrillo and telling me about stuff. I made a few sarcastic comments that turned out to be right on the money. When he reached the last puzzle in that game he started laughing for five minutes straight because it was exactly what I had guessed.
Funny you mention that, because they’ve released a fan translation of the first two chapters of AAI2 just a few days ago:
And the comment system ate my link, so I’ll put it in plain text:
http://court-records-net.tumblr.com/post/61452453993/aai2-fan-translation-case-1-2-patch-released
It is ALSO annoying when the prosecutor just laughs at you while throwing obvious hints your way and Phoenix/Apollo rolls around in his ineptitude for five minutes while you yell at the game to shut up and let you present the evidence already.
Happy Birthday!
Uuuugh, Ace Attorney. I love it fervently, but yes, my biggest complaint about the game – or maybe it’s a complaint about myself – is that it and I just don’t think the same way. So often I feel sure I could respond adequately to whatever I’ve been asked to prove given the evidence, but it always turns out I haven’t jumped through enough goofy hoops yet for the game to give me a pass. BUT THOSE GOOFY HOOPS MAKE THE GAME PRETTY MEMORABLE, TOO, SO WHAT CAN YOU DO.
Speaking of great things about the game, hoo boy, I zeroed right in on that beautiful uncertain-looking Gumshoe in the background. He looks great in your style even just from the mandible up. (favorite character, yes)
Also, congratulations on your inordinately adorable pigeon acquisition and happy birthday, perhaps somewhat belated! I’m so glad these two events roughly coincided!
Yeah, most of my health losses in the AA games come from when I’m supposed to be trying to prove part one of the solution when my brain is already working on part four.
I loved the conceit that the tutorial in the second Phoenix Wright game is because you have amnesia. So much better than just being stupid for no good reason.
Ahaha, I think that by the time the second game rolled around, I’d resigned myself to occasional long periods of manic evidence spam as a result of that problem. But was it the game, or was it me? IT… or I? A game shouldn’t reduce its player to flailing for forward progress! … but I can’t stay mad, it’s just too brilliant.
Also – yes! That was a clever repackaging of a necessary evil! And it set up some lovely character moments, which is also a plus.
For a second there, I thought you were making fun of Detective Conan, but then I remembered he’s a kid. Whoopsie.
Um, actually Conan isn’t a kid, he was shrinked.
He was transformed into a child, but he still has the mind of an adult. And the wiki is telling me that later on, someone else got transformed into a child the same way. You’d think the villains would test out their experimental drugs/poisons a lot more, before using them. :P
And no, it makes no sense, but… *shrugs* It would certainly make for some interesting filler episodes. It’s Japan, so the creator might be willing to go there. I really don’t know, because I saw maybe one episode or read one of the books, and decided it wasn’t for me.
You really don’t seem to understand at all about Detective Conan. He was a high school detective who was forced to take a drug that only had a rare side effect of shrinking him rather than killing him, which the organization hadn’t really known about. Its not a matter of filler, as that other person (who herself had expected to die taking the drug) has become a significant character in the story. You don’t seem to understand what “filler” is.
Also, its the 27th longest running manga, and 14th longest running anime series out there, having started 17 years ago, and still going.
Happy Birthday!
Also seeing pigeons I can only think of one thing: Haotful Boyfriend. I don’t know why…but alas that game has infected my brain. :(
Happy Birthday! Here’s a pidgeon riding the subway for this marvelous day. :P https://twitter.com/UsuariosMetroSP/status/381134359735975937/photo/1
wow, another Brazilian following MGDMT? welcome ^_^
at least its not trying to attack your feet so you drop whatever you’re eating :-D
I haven’t played Ace Attorney, been reading LPs of it. However I have played this: http://www.kongregate.com/games/ChiefWakamakamu/socrates-jones-pro-philosopher which is heavily based on Ace Attorney, maybe you would like it too?
Happy Birthday!
IIRC, that case in particular frustrated me in a different way. Whatever his method, he proved his client Not Guilty. Case solved, right? Nope! For some reason you have to prove someone ELSE is Guilty for your client not to go to jail. The hell…? I mean, in all the other cases you proved your client innocent BY finding other people guilty, making it acceptable… but in this particular case, the client’s innocence was proved independently.
How about when you’ve already figured out the line of reasoning but jump the gun a little and present the right evidence but at the wrong time and get penalized anyway? That’s always fun.
Speaking of AAI2, did you know that the fan translation Court Records has been working on is well on its way to completion? They’ve already released the first two cases to the public.
Happy Birthday! Yours is only 4 days from mine. ;]
Not trying to be that guy, but if you write right-handed, you use a left-handed glove in baseball because your dominant hand is the throwing hand.
I pretty much inherently resent anyone who starts out a comment with “not trying to be that guy” because, yes, that guy is exactly what you’re interrupting your day to be, but if we’re going to be that pedantic I’m going to assume, in the context of the story, that when they say a “left handed glove” (because the game calls it a left handed glove, not me) they mean a baseball glove especially for left-handed people.
I redact the statement. You’re right about beggining with “not trying to be that guy.” Still a fan. Keep up the good work. Draw more Gyrados.
*sigh* Grammer Nazi in me. I spelled beginning wrong…
Goddamit! *Grammar.
Lol, I know how you feel, also Happy birthday Coela, hope you had/have a lucky day :)
You should also spell Gyarados with two “a”s if you’re dead set to be a Grammar Nazi about it (wouldn’t Orthography Nazi be the correct term here? I wouldn’t want to be a Semantics Nazi about it, though).
Yeah, I’m going to go ahead and be that guy and inform you that you spelled Gyarados wrong too.
in the initial trial, the judge says “that’s right, this glove is made to be worn on the right hand” you can also see that if you look at the picture of the glove. So the glove is made for a left handed person, to be worn on their right hand.
Goddammit. The worst thing about Android is definitely all the cool games only released on iOS :/
Agree. I use an Android smartphone, & turns out not all games in it is cool.
Hah, yes I remember that Case xD Kept trying to point out the neck “His neck was broken god darn it!” but nooooo, it was the stupid banana gloves…
Anyway, happy birthday! Your fancy pigeons are cure :3
LOOK at their TINY FLUFFY FEET!
I’m making an excited Jared face now.
Pic or h0ax :P
Happy Birthday. I will be 26 tomorrow. IIRC, I missed being born on the 20th by an hour or two.
Happy birthday! Will your fancy pigeons become the fattest pigeons?
a birthday happy to you.
I’m tempted to get into a raging directionless rant about all the times you know the solution but you’re left waiting for ten minutes arguing about pointless bull in Ace Attorney games, but instead, I’m going to say we need more Dick Gumshoe.
Happy Birthday! I’m not a huge fan of birds, but those are the fanciest pigeons I’ve ever seen. I just wanted to say your comic is great and I’m really glad I found it. I’m not sure what the initial investment for merchandise is, but if it can bring you some extra coin I whole heartedly endorse it. That and I want a MGDMT t-shirt or pin of the robo-bird up there.
Oh my gosh! I loooove your pigeons!! Did you know that in Krakow, Poland they believe the pigeons are cursed knights? Pretty much some mythical prince made an agreement with a witch for money and she turned them into pigeons. The prince ended up spending his money on hookers and feasts so he failed and they remained pigeons. It’s awesome.
Happy birthday Coelasquid! I must say, it amazes me how much you’ve accomplished at such a young age. I’m 26 and sometimes it feels like I’ve barely gotten started, let alone made any progress.
The fattest pidgeon
THANK. YOU.
I hated this case so much because of that one fact. I actually failed it the first time because I kept trying to present the medical record that said “died instantly” on every sentence.
I love the PW games as well. And yea, sometimes you just have to wonder how they missed the plotholes. But good games overall
And woo for birthday on the 20th. Mine’s today (as of posting) the 21st :3. So rock on bday peoples
So many times in those games I had something obvious to point out they wouldn’t let me. SO many god damn times.
Those pigeons are fancy as hell.
We share a birthday! Hope you had fun, bday buddy!
This isn’t the only plot railroad that drives me crazy. The ability to call people out on their BS because of a magical talisman or bracelets should also be inadmissible in a court of law. At least Edgeworth can connect logical thoughts together.
You can’t call them out with magic talismans in court, though, the Magatama only lets Phoenix see when someone is lying so he can run off to find the evidence he needs to prove them wrong. Same with the bracelet, it just makes Apollo exceptionally sensitive to poker tells.
I’d say the worst was the time you prove your client was innocent, without a doubt he couldn’t have done it. And then you still have to figure out who did it and show the court. Why? That’s Edgeworths job!
Hahahaha yeeeeeah. That court system is balls-out crazy. Reasonable doubt is apparently not a thing in Japan.
I thought that said “ANYWAYYYYY yeah, I really love Pigeon Wright games”
Yeah, I’m not awake fully yet I guess…
This was the first case I played in Phoenix Wright (case 1 in Justice For All). There wasn’t a moment of it that I didn’t think, “Does the Judge actually BELIEVE any of this!?”
Those are indeed the fanciest pigeons.
Happy Birthday, Coelasquid! May a manly-ass leprechaun come and grant you a wish.
Happy Birthday, Squid! ^_^ Gosh, i thought you’re going to continue the Lobo saga XDDDDDDDDDD
Not sure how long this will be a thing, but it looks like the iOS trilogy is free right now for anyone who doesn’t have it. Just downloaded it and looking forward to playing through them for the first time. Also, Happy Birthday!
Scratch that, it looks like only the first two episodes are free, but I guess it’s still a good way to try it out.
I am super envious of your pigeons. Happy birthday!
In regards to AAI2, the fans have been working on a translation.
They just released the first couple cases:
http://z11.invisionfree.com/court_records/index.php?showtopic=84160
You know, I think they actually DID make the point that the Commander did. They spewed some bullshit about how he lived long enough to write it. Even assuming that a broken neck isn’t instantly fatal, I’m guessing that it’d ring your bells more than long enough to keep you from stringing any thoughts together until you croak.
…Also you have no idea how hard it was to keep from throwing an “OBJECTION!” in that last paragraph.
Anyway, I’ll stop bitching about various things, because Phoenix Wright comic! This is the good shit! I love the AA games (though I STILL need to play Investigations one of these days).
It’s bullshit explanations like that that make us really appreciate Phoenix’s job
I read the post while my reading comprehension was taking a nap, and so I spent an awfully long time trying to figure out the logistics of buying and selling fancy pigeons through iTunes. Anyway, a belated happy bird day to you!
Doh, I read the comic and just not remembered I forgot to say happy birthday! So… a belated happy birthday! :D
Incidentally, I love the way their wings are patterned. You have some beautiful pigeons!
Those are some gorgeous pigeons.
Welcome to level 26!
Happy b-day!
and very beautiful pidgeons – love the feather-pattern ^_^
Happy birthday, Coela!
Oh yeah, Ace Attorney Trilogy HD… if they released that on the 3DS’ eshop, I’d buy it instantly.
FLUFFY PIDGEONS. MUST POKE. FLUFFY.
Also happy berfday!
Aw…your pigeons are looking pretty fancy. Cute. :) I just recently got a couple of cockatiels myself. I really love ’em. They can be pretty cute too (when they feel like it, anyway).
Happy birthday :)
EEEEEEeeee! I have one of those pigeons, though I think in the “classic” style rather than “modern” (slightly bigger beak). She made a baby with a fantail pigeon, and the baby is so cute (though none of the awesome lace marking that an oriental frill pigeon has). Congrats on pigeons! How tame are your birds? (I keep mine in a big old aviary, so they have plenty of room to run away from me, and BOY do they take advantage of that).
Happy birthday to you! Enjoy 26, ’twas a good year!
Late happy birthday ^^
That case made me want to headbutt the sidewalk till I was unconscious.
I can’t help but notice that the Commander is drinking what I assume to be a very dark beer, as any certifiable baddass should do. Kudos to him.
happy birthday…and nice pidgeons…they look so fancy….i wonder if you can put them a little top hat….
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
And OMG SQUEE CUTE PIDGY-WIDGIES!! <3 <3 <3
My fellow Libra,
Pigeon under glass sounds tasty! Serious, happy b-day and the birds are lovely.
Will you send them to the school for pigeons to find/be hatoful boifurendos?
Happy birthday, Coela! And also, PIGEONS! Not the fattest type, though.
I spent my vacation week in London photographing ALL THE PIGEONS. I am pretty sure this is a direct result of late nights reading your tumblr, Coela.
Fancy Pigeons! Those are beautiful!
This reminds me of HISHE for some reason.
Actually commander he DID argue about that, only for the prosecutor to jump in and say ‘the victim might’ve lived for a few minutes after his death, where he wrote the name’
If someone is dying of a fatally broken neck, even if they survive a couple minutes, chances are they won’t be doing a lot of dexterous work with their hands immediately after the injury. The vertebrae that disable your vitals if they break are higher up in your neck than the ones that mess with your ability to use your arms.
When Gumshoe said, that the victim wrote his name, after hitting the ground, I presented the autopsy… And got penalized!!
Ha! Ha! Posting on old comics!
They actually pointed this out in the case itself. The prosecution then went on about how “for the sake of argument” they could assume he survived for a minute or so after breaking his neck. Never mind that would mean moving his hand despite a severed spinal chord.
