Twilight Princess maybe, but DEFINITELY Ocarina of Time. It’s been a while since I’ve played Twilight Princess so I can’t be certain if Mail Guy was in it or not. But there was a subquest or two involving him in Ocarina of Time.
Wonder where those uniforms are from… (do not get the reference). Loving the way Ganondorf is holding him in the first panel though. It’s like he caught him climbing on the TV and just picked him up and carried him that way.
It’s from Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. The Postman in the game wears the getup, looks.. pretty much exactly as portrayed above. He runs in a very peculiar manner, and talks strangely.
Come to think of it, everything about the guy is odd.
And whenever you think you’ve run to a place where he can’t find you, suddenly…
He’s there, you run to the death mountain to escape, and find him there ahead of you.
You hide amongst the zora’s, but the postman was there…
There is no hiding from the postman. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night shall stay him.
Also from Twilight Princess. I saw a Let’s Play of that game show off a glitch that makes him run off of a cliff into a bottomless pit… after a few minutes of frame-per-second lag, he just appears in front of you.
Actually it is from twilight princess. The post man looks EXACTLY like that. The comic itself, however, is a reference to Hyrule Warriors, as that is one ofthecostumes for link in the twilight princess dlc…
Personally, i think link in the postman costume while riding epona is effin hilarious. It like he’s holding the colors for his army, except for some reason he’s in his underwear. It is fantastic.
It’s actually a track suit from Ocarina of Time. The postman’s just a guy obsessed with running in that game and that’s his workout gear. Most of the character sprites in Majora’s Mask are improved versions of OoT, and the running guy turned in to the postman there. And didn’t change clothes. By now, it’s a running gag/TRADITION!! that won’t be changed any time soon.
Link talks any time you select an answer to a question in game. And quite a bit in Skyward Sword. In fact, any time someone reacts as if someone said something, it’s implied that Link said it but his dialogue was just never shown. He’s not mute, he doesn’t REFUSE to talk, it’s just that he’s meant to be a player surrogate in the game so they limit how and what he says.
My colourist’s computer is broken but there are six pages waiting for her whenever it’s running again. In the meantime I post the b/w pages at the $5 tier on patreon and post progress info on the Platinum Black Blog.
… The Postman’s response to Link’s embarrassment strongly reminds me of a lot of responses to some people’s complaints about skimpily-dressed women in video games. (The responses coming from both males and females alike)
I think that’s part of the joke, and the postman saying “I feel empowered!” is supposed to be a “take that” against people who use that excuse to keep drawing women superheroes in leather bikinis in the butts & boobs pose. (I mean, if you’re gonna draw that, at least be honest about it.)
wow, if those are the new reg uniforms, the gals up here will love wearing them at -40…. – or when it gets really warm in the summer and there are lots and lots of mosquitos!!
Hrm… Netflix is making a Legend of Zelda live action series, now all I want is for it to be set in contemporary times so I can see a live action Ganandorf in a suit and tie.
btw, i LOVE hyrule warriors. even if its just a spinoff, its taught me that im a sucker for dynasty warriors-type games. never played one before and now i cant play it enough. to be fair though, tingle still disturbs the hell outta me.
Precisely my experience. I like the Dynasty Warriors GAME, I just could never get interested in the story, context, or characters… so basically the entire game except for graphics and mechanics!
Sorry China, your history apparently bores the CRAP out of me.
Not feeling you there TomeWyrm, there’s a guy that got shot in the with an arrow, pulled out the arrow and ate his own eye to invoke fear in the enemy, and it worked, they surrendered.
There’s the priest that was about seven feet tall, stood on a bridge with a guando and just took out everyone who came even kind of close, defender the post for days against a small army.
Three Kingdoms mythology is fantastic.
I recommend the Samurai Warriors and/or Warriors Orochi series for fans of Hyrule Warriors wanting to move into the other Warriors games, especially the Warriors Orochi. Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper for Wii-U in particular is fun for its sheer insanity, all the mythological figures and characters from other Koei-Tecmo games that crop up (Sun Wu’kong the Monkey King, Achilles, Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden…), plus it’s all insane time-travel alternate dimension shenanigans. Gotta love it. It’s a lot more accessible than the slightly more real historical themes of Samurai and Dynasty.
I’m really liking how chill and amiable MGDMT Ganondorf is. Rather than go “Kill him!” or even “Kick the kid out!”, he goes “Get this kid a stable productive job.”
When all’s said and done, Ganondorf has been happily rehabilitated of diabolical desires by the temp agency, and is happy to have a nice job, and it’s Link who can’t get with the times. I love it :’D
Makes sense, since Link is a kid with a history of destroying property, attacking livestock, and whatever the hell it is he does with bottled fairies… Whereas Ganondorf has always been in positions of power and respect, despite racial prejudices against the Gerudo. Without the temptation of world-ending magical artifacts and such, Ganondorf would be considered a pillar of the community’, or at least a noteworthy success story… Now if only he’d stop transforming into terrifying hell beasts…
Maybe when the neighbouring kingdom is actively oppressing them and driving them out into a harsh desert where they all have to steal to survive they do.
Is the actively oppressing them and driving them out actually there? It certainly wasn’t shown too much in the Hystoria books and they’ve always kind of been there, both pretty racist towards each other.
As it is, Ganondorf mostly just consolidated his power base and didn’t really even let the Gerudo take the fruits of the land for themselves as he just killed off the Hylians and left the land to rot, not to mention what could potentially be done to dissidents as Iron Knuckles (fanon as well, but seeing the faces in the armor was creepy!)
Confirmed as of Wind Waker that Ganondorf started down this whole path to destruction because the desert was too harsh and his people kept dying, but Hyrule was great and lush and thriving. Throw some ancient artifacts and revenge-bond god spirits or whatever in the mix and good intentions fall by the wayside.
It’s not hard to extrapolate social inequality in a situation where a group of people is dying for lack of potable soil and the dominant ruling culture in their society gossips about them being thieves instead letting them move out of the desert before things escalated to bloodshed
Don’t get me wrong, I love the treatment of him in MGDMT, but in-canon? Ganondorf is not nice people. His entire existence is owed to the king of demons cursing Link & Zelda to be hounded for all eternity by an incarnation of hatred.
Sure he rises to power in Gerudo society, and is intelligent, can plan well, and such… he’s the only male born to the tribe in a hundred years, which gives him a practically divine status, they probably trained him and taught him as best they could, I mean he’s their once-a-century king.
The Gerudo themselves treat Hylia more like a tolerable necessity. They need Hylians to reproduce, but they don’t share the same cultural values (or really much other than being the same species of humanoid), so they don’t really get along. But the Gerudo pre-Ganondorf don’t appear to have hostile intent towards Hylia, they just don’t want those non-believers desecrating their sacred desert.
It might be the Venture brother’s binge that I just got done with but I read the Commander’s lines in the voice of Brock Samson and the Hylian Mailman’s lines in the voice of Colonel Gentlemen…..
The postman reminds me of the captain from Venture bros. Anyone else think so, or am i just crazy and should stop reading his lines with a pirate accent?
I think you should recolor that wall in the last strip. It took me a few reads to realize that there were two panels there… I thought, for some reason, there were two Links standing next to the postal guy.
Hey Coelasquid, have you thought of doing a “Most Manly” competition with the guys? You know that Varric and The Iron Bull would have to be in it cause well, Varric IS a Paragon of Manliness y’know? But the question would be WHO would judge? (Of course you know that Jared and Link would try and compete but fail miserably.) XD
I like to imagine that Link and Ganondorf have this public image to maintain, so off-panel they’re drinking, go-karting and doing all the stuff Mario and Bowser do. Or when they’re doing their security thing together, they’re srs bsns.
Except when it comes to Hyrule Warriors. That was all Ganondorf’s attempt at getting Link a date that wasn’t Zelda gone completely pear shaped.
I was under the impression that all the regular manly guys were supposed to have their personal Jareds. Eventually, if not already.
Sten has the Warden.
Ganondord has Link.
Nondescript Space Future Dudes have that guy who wouldn’t pose for the walking-away-from-an-explosion picture.
Kratos needs a Jared. He needs one so bad. The poor guy.
I think Kratos’ Jared was the guy olding the lever to holt the bridge in the first game.
Sensible thing to do: avoid being eaten by monster. Result: bombed with magic.
I can think of a few candidates for Kratos’s Jared:
–Orkos (oathkeeper from Ascension)
–Athena
–Pandora
It looks like he kinda does kill ’em all in one way or another, though…
–Orkos (literally asked for it)
–Athena (dove in the way of his blade to save Zeus)
–Pandora (released her to unlock Pandora’s Box, kinda did ask for it)
I kept reading “Antagonistic” as “Agnostic” for some reason.
Then again if I look at it in the sense that Jared reveres the Commander as an ultra powerful Hero Figure that might come to God Hood levels of reverence, Link simply is a twat.
Mind you, a twat with a rather effed Ancestry that might make even the Lannisters exclaim “The frack?!”
Hey Coalasquid, have you checked out Evolve? Just mention it cause it’s another batch of badasses and giant monster hunting seems right up the Commander’s alley!
Link’s expression in that first panel… Has he been hanging out with Grumpy Cat recently? XD
Link traded all of Jared’s Cloudcuckolanderish awesomness for being a total dick to everything that lives, breaths and is called Ganondorf.
Whoa only two comments so far am I ever here early. The first panel is like the best part, I love how he’s holding him like an annoying pet XD
Well, wouldn’t you be annoyed if you keep coming home only to find stray protagonists rummaging through your flower beds?
And the comparisons just get stronger. XD
He also takes all the shiny things like some kinds of birds. Magpies/Crows/Ravens love shiny things
…I have NO IDEA what those uniforms could be fun, though I like how Link is become basically Ganons villain, rather then the other way around…
Twilight Princess maybe, but DEFINITELY Ocarina of Time. It’s been a while since I’ve played Twilight Princess so I can’t be certain if Mail Guy was in it or not. But there was a subquest or two involving him in Ocarina of Time.
He was. I never made it very far into Twilight Princess and don’t remember much about the game, but I definitely remember running into the Mail Guy.
Plus the costume was released as part of the Twilight Princess DLC for Hyrule Warriors, so…
Because everything not directly its own LoZ game has to revolve around Twilight fucking Princess.
Liking the red suit on Ganon.
Hahaha how empowering
Don’t underestimate the power of uniform. I wear my uniform when i become a teacher, & man i FEEL POWERFUL!!
Wonder where those uniforms are from… (do not get the reference). Loving the way Ganondorf is holding him in the first panel though. It’s like he caught him climbing on the TV and just picked him up and carried him that way.
In the game Hyrule Warriors, part of the Twilight Princess DLC is the “postman costume” for Link.
Wonder how ‘Postman Pat’ wold feel if he had to start wearing that :D
I was thinking of Cliff from Cheers… and now I just dated myself.
It’s from Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. The Postman in the game wears the getup, looks.. pretty much exactly as portrayed above. He runs in a very peculiar manner, and talks strangely.

There is no hiding from the postman. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night shall stay him.
That uniform is the secret that empowers him to get anywhere at any time…
falling of the moon might
What about Mrs Cake? Or big green things with teeth? Or Mrs Cake?
I don’t think even Mr. Pump could escape Mrs. Cake.
Whoa whoa whoa, you don’t just ask about Ms. Cake. Mostly because we asked you not to.
+1 for the Going Postal reference.
You
Do Not Ask.
Also from Twilight Princess. I saw a Let’s Play of that game show off a glitch that makes him run off of a cliff into a bottomless pit… after a few minutes of frame-per-second lag, he just appears in front of you.

…Unless you count the Rito postman, of course.
I wonder if link will run as silly as the postman…
Who do you think taught the Postman how to run in the first place? o_O
No one, its natural instinct. He knows the secret, don’t move your legs faster, kick the ground harder.
Why is he talking? Since when does link talk? Well excuse me, webcomic!
He actually talked as early as in his first cameo. Calling Gandondorf a dirty Gerudo thief and stuff.
Stupid Question; are we going to get more Platinum Black any time soon?
She works on it when she can but prioritizes quality over speed. It will come out when it will.
My colourist’s computer is broken but there are six pages waiting for her whenever it’s running again. In the meantime I post the b/w pages at the $5 tier on patreon and post progress info on the Platinum Black Blog.
Lookin’ forward to it :)
Oh brilliant! I really love the universe you have created there, I really want to know more about it.

Nintendo property, not gonna happen. :(
But we can dream…
Sure thing! There’s a Street Fighters : Assassin’s Fist, which is kinda good. So why the hell not?
Well, I mean they ARE making one, they want it to be like a family friendly Game of Thrones.
Those last five words do not belong next to each other in any context other than one where the word “not” is involved.
I dunno, man. Live action King Koopa in a suit and tie didn’t work out so well.
It kinda helps once you realize John Leguizamo and Bob Hoskins were drunk for pretty much the whole movie.
Eh, the look in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFdvTMpumSs#t=237 is promising. A proper costume designer could make suit and tie Bowser look good.
btw, i LOVE hyrule warriors. even if its just a spinoff, its taught me that im a sucker for dynasty warriors-type games. never played one before and now i cant play it enough. to be fair though, tingle still disturbs the hell outta me.

Isolationist, not warmongering :-)
>4th panel
>That bulge difference
Well hello Ms. Postman.
I love that in this comic Link is just this squirrely little asshole that shows up just to annoy Ganondorf.
Is it weird I think link looks hot in that outfit? -_^
A job at the post office might not be the best thing for Link… or anyone else involved, for that matter.
#LinkGoesPostal
We needed this strip years ago, tbh. It’s a bit jarring after the previous “story,” tho. :(
It might be the Venture brother’s binge that I just got done with but I read the Commander’s lines in the voice of Brock Samson and the Hylian Mailman’s lines in the voice of Colonel Gentlemen…..
To be fair, Link actually makes the outfit look good. You certainly gave him some awesome guns. ;)
Have you SEEN how fast the kid can swing a sword? Need good muscle to bat around several pounds of steel like a tube of cardboard.
I thought it would be Majora related due to the remake but it turned out better than expected.
By the way, there might’ve been a bit of an accident, Link’s left eyebrow is… kinda magenta or something right now.
Wait a second, now the protagonist from Pink to the Last is pestering Ganondorf?
Hey Coelasquid, have you thought of doing a “Most Manly” competition with the guys? You know that Varric and The Iron Bull would have to be in it cause well, Varric IS a Paragon of Manliness y’know? But the question would be WHO would judge? (Of course you know that Jared and Link would try and compete but fail miserably.) XD
She did. http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/archives/comic/bros-before-hos
OMG! How did I forget about this? hmm….though for DAI maybe the manliest man could be Krem..heh THAT would be funny.
I like to pretend that each comic is the one from the previous week, so that they’re actually always early.
EVERYTHING about this comis is perfect! Every single thing.
Somehow I get the feeling Kratos murdered his Jared before he was able to understand his Jaredness

Hey Coalasquid, have you checked out Evolve? Just mention it cause it’s another batch of badasses and giant monster hunting seems right up the Commander’s alley!
Something tells me you’re not too big fan of Link. XD
