Woop Woop! Punisher!! Gotta be one of my favorite Marvel vigilantes. Sure he’s a bit extreme, but he’s kinda right at times as well. Just gonna put it out there, if his DC equivalent Red Hood was allowed to do his job, there’d be a lot less super villains running around.
I suspect that, in the best habits of supervillains, they’d just come back.
As for the strip, I rather like the idea of the Punisher getting together all the stuff he needs for his outfit, then hankering down somewhere and becoming totally engrossed in crafting it, finally at peace for a brief while.
It’s nice to see Coelasquid drawing the Punisher again, the last time I think was when she drew Frankencastle, so I was curious how she’d draw regular Frank, given how much his appearance can vary depending on who’s drawing him. Though in this case, he’s based on the actor playing him on the telly right now.
Frank only really gets to kill mobsters, all the actual super villains come back.
Honestly, I’d like to see some comic make the point that, since nearly all villains come back, it’s better to have them in a prison where you’ll hear about it than in hell where you’ll never see their return coming before it’s too late.
Superman actually made that point to a team of 90s vigilantes that were calling out the JL for not just simply killing the villains, once. He pointed out that for most supervillains, compared to some of the shit that the Justice League had figured out to imprison them, simply getting shot in the head was a walk in the park.
This led to the immortal line: “Those “no-nonsense” solutions of yours just don’t hold water in a complex world of time travel and jet-powered apes”.
… or super-hero comics love recurring villains. Deth is a joke in most of those comic (just ask Bucky and Jason Todd) the only villians who get to die a horrible death are easily replaceable criminal or alt universe variants

I just made this account to tell you about the DC equivalent of Punisher, Tomy Monaghan “The Hitman”, an anti hero with x ray vision, everyone should read the Garth Ennis run.
I remember HITMAN he was the only survivor of the INFAMOUS BLOODLINES series of books.
I don’t think Hitman’s really equivalent to the Punisher, especially not their title characters. Frank Castle’s a sort of lunatic obsessive & loner waging a futile one-man war, while Tommy Monaghan’s a much more mellow, sociable character whose basic goal is to make ends meet as a Hitman, rather than because he thinks it’s a job that really needs doing.
I really like both comics, and characters, but I don’t think they’re all that alike, despite having the same writer, and I guess when it comes to the Marvel Knights Punisher, that they’re both black humour series set in dodgy corners of superhero universes.

it makes for an excellent point to ask blind guy about stuff related to visual aesthetic :) ah, after bingewatching DD season 2, I realized what I really liked about first season: enthralling, interesting villain. Damn, Fisk was scary but relatable, and for some parts, perfectly correct.
I’m so glad they bought him back. That whole scene with him eating dinner in the hospital was chilling and awesome
I feel like season 2 could’ve been stronger if it had been about Matt dealing with Frank all season, letting us explore that dynamic a little more, save the ninja stuff for season three. Matt repeatedly neglecting the firm and the Frank Castle case that he insisted they take just annoyed me.
I would’ve liked to see Matt be involved, have the writers give us more lawyerly brilliance in and out of the courtroom, maybe they manage to win the “not mentally competent to stand trial” arguments, Frank is transported to a mental institution, and escapes en route to finish hunting down the Blacksmith. Daredevil pursues, the fight is desperate, and in the end, the Punisher gets away. Cut to Matt dragging himself into his apartment, battered, exhausted, grabs a beer out of the fridge… and Elektra’s on his couch. “Hello, Matthew.” Boom. Credits. End season 2.
You’re not the only one to think that way. In fact, most everyone I’ve talked to about it have felt like the whole Elektra storyline was an unneeded distraction for this season. Unlike season 1, where there was a very focused story with a few side glances elsewhere, this season tried too hard to put multiple stories together and it hurt the show. It was still good, but it wasn’t as good as either the first season or Jessica Jones in my opinion.
Actual that’s sortof a point with Daredevil. This season was showing what happens when things get too much for him to juggle which does happen pretty frequently in a least a couple of arcs of the comic
This might be unpopular to say but I would go even further as to say Daredevil (and Matt) are the least interesting part of his own show! Like episode 3 (minor spoiler warning) when the punsiher makes this completely valid point about matt being a half measure and it only being a matter of time till he has to chose a side and either kill or look the other way. That was great till then. And then the series felt like it had to justify Daredevil by making him “find another way” out of current dilemma and treats it as if Matt found the hailed third path, when in fact the point taht the Punisher made still absolutely stands. What’s worse the entire thing is allready undermined when Matt in the next scene has a big “supposedly non lethal” brawl with gang member where he does stuff to some of them that will VERY clearly kill them.
I won’t say the show would be better without Daredevil, it wouldn’t be the same show. But I feel the show has many good ideas and comelling relatable villains that all have to be kinda deminished cause the show feels it needs to justify Daredevil and his “superheroing”.
Actually, they did try to show the other side of things. For instance, that guy that the Punisher kills, pointing out the evil thing he did? Next episode we listen to his eulogy (I’m REALLY happy they brought back the priest; he’s just awesome) and we find out how horribly guilt ridden he was by what he’d done. “He always put stuff in the collection plate; I once saw him put a rolex in it. He was trying to find redemption, to atone… trying to make up for whatever it was he’d done.”
Also, there’s the fact that Punisher’s killing spree has two things wrong with it. One: who’s to say the person deserves it? There are cultures where people turn into the Punisher whenever they feel they’ve been wronged. Those are the culture where a guy working in a deli gets his head chopped off by a customer because the guy’s grandfather murdered someone forty years ago. It’s one thing for the Punisher to slaughter murderous gangs, but what happens when he starts blowing away couples for jaywalking?
Then there’s the fact that dead men tell no tales – which means the “punishment” ends with them. That (minor spoiler warning) pawnbroker who was waving around kiddy porn? Killing him meant NOT being able to find out where he gets the stuff, tracking down the people who MADE the stuff, and helping those kids. If Daredevil had resorted to murder in season 1 (like he was tempted to), he wouldn’t have been able to clean up the system. Instead we were treated to that beautiful montage of law firm senior partners, bad cops, and crooked politicians all being rounded up and led off in handcuffs.
Oh I’m not saying the Punisher does the right thing. I think it’s a tricky subject and a walk on the razors edge. And I would have loved it if the show made its case for all approaches. Punisher with his “judge, Jury and Executioner” murder routine, maybe Foggy trying to help within the Law and Daredevil trying to maneuvre the grey areas in betwen. What irked me is that the way the show presents Daredevil it seems to feel the need to make sure we know “his way is the right way”, which I wouldn’t put my signature under either. And it would have been really interesting if the show had let us and the characters grapple with the implications and consequences of the path they chose to believe in, maybe question it, maybe change. Instead of deciding for us who is right and getting back to the “hero” status quo : )
I’m being a bit critical with Daredevil cause I see more depth and potential in the show than many of the surface area marvel movies and TV shows out there. And I think it’s a shame tos ee them kind of hesitate to explore and comit to these idead and their gritty world because they feel obligated to keep Daredevil a noble Superhero.
Honestly I’ve always been fairly uninterested in Daredevil in general and find most of the characters in the show super tropey and frustrating. Every time we went back to the Matt/Electra storyline it felt like I was chewing through gristle to get back to the meat I was after. I hope Frank gets his solo series because it sort of felt like Daredevil and Electra were a distraction from the completely separate show going on inside their show that was the only part I wanted to watch.
Gonna be honest, that simile means nothing to me. I really like eating gristle.

That reminders me of a story run when the PUnisher got a drop on Daredevil and chained him to a chimney like in the show, but with one of his hands taped to a gun pointed at the Punisher’s head as the Punisher is about to take out some mobsters and told him te only way to stop him was to pull the trigger.

Daredevil Season 1 was great. Really made me interested in the Matt Murdock character.
Daredevil Season 2 is also great but they changed the rules a bit. They made the enemies people who really deserved more than “I’ll give you a good thrashing, you bounder!” Then they put in really interesting characters who didn’t stop at beating people up. Daredevil became the least interesting/consequential character on his own show.

Daredevil and all his Superheroeness imo just kind of seem like the odd man out his otehrwise pretty gritty, realism adjacant universe which makes him kinda bland and predictable! Seems I’m not alone in the thought ;)
That dialogue… What Frank says in the 1st panel is unintentionally insensitive towards Matt. But hey, this is MGDMT after all :D

Because honestly I don’t see any kind of drop in quality.
My shoulder’s the broken part, my hand just has temporary nerve damage ahahahaha. I have to use a different brush because I have a really difficult time controlling pen pressure (it’s funny because I’m almost incapable of using ballpoint pens right now, I can’t press down hard enough to write), and I have to move my right arm around by grabbing my elbow with my left hand and kind of puppeting it while I draw with my wrist, but I’m making it work.
Your art remains stylish and recognizably yours. Of course, I’d only complain if you decided “Oh, I got a papercut, webcomic’s canceled forever and ever” or some other unreasonably overblown reaction to something far less.

I crushed a nerve in my lower leg and had the same lack of movement/puppet deal going on. It was frustrating enough to limp about like a pirate with a pegleg, I can’t imagine having to deal with an arm with the same issues.

The line art version of this one really makes the skull-vest pop. Color is always fun, but seeing this step in the process is never a bad thing (and if this is where it ends up staying, it’s just as good).

That is one thing that sets apart the Movie MCU from the TV MCU characters. TV MCU, even Agents of SHIELD, takes anonymity more seriously, whereas all the Movie MCU heroes know who each other are. Hence why Civil War needs to be about more than just superhero registration.
That makes the above comic so very, very awkward. Someone should really tell Frank. Like, I know he wouldn’t do that on purpose. He’s actually pretty sensitive… for a murderer ^_^;

While i’m probably sure the comic isn’t colored because it’s already hard enough to draw it with a fucked up arm (you are badass as fuck, C. Squiddy), considering Matt’s condition, it’s fittingly apropos.

I would greatly appreciate more comics taking the time to have characters lament over their wardrobe issues. Say what you will about the first Spiderman films, but that elevator scene in Spiderman 2 where Spidey briefly comments on how the suit rides up his crotch, had me choking on my laughs in the theater.

Honestly, the best parts of Season 2 were Daredevil and Punisher pulling an odd couple. We were robbed when he wasn’t on the rooftop with DD and Elektra with a shotgun.
I like to think I’m pretty sharp. Quick witted, great at puzzles. But sometimes I have thoughts that are super confused. At the end of the panel I was like, “wait, how does Kelly know what daredevils costume looks like if she’s blind?” sorry. That’s not really related to anything.
This would be one of the rare cases that DD and Frank are in the same room and Frank’s not trying to kill him or something.
I like to imagine Frank going to apologize to Foggy later on. Seriously Foggy fought for Frank. It’d be the least he could do for him or make a I’m sorry I ruined you biggest case cake.
Foggy and Frank were the best in Daredevil Season 2, everything else was like okayish for me.
Eh, despite Foggy’s prognostications of doom and gloom, the Castle case actually worked out for him – Hogarth, Chao and Benowitz is a more prestigious and profitable firm than Nelson and Murdock ever was, he got a good salary, and an explicit statement that he was already on track to be made a partner. About the only downside is he probably won’t be able to take the kind of cases he and Matt were taking…
