Bad news didn’t have much time for MGDMT this week, good news three new Platinum Black pages.
Watching the marathon as I browse the internet. Good times.
Nice! It’s been so long since I’ve watched the Simpson it would take me probably a month to catch up.
I quit watching The Simpsons years ago, when the local TV station quit broadcasting it (due to moral maggots protesting the show). ^^;;
My father… Correction, my late father (he died this August 9th 2014 due to Stroke & respiratory failure) love The Simpsons cartoon so much, he bought the cassette tape of The Simpsons OST.
Anyone care for a Bart Dance? XD
im so sorry about your father, i lost my mother a while ago when i was 15 back in 04. losing a parent is tough
my tv has only been playing the simpsons since the marathon started. im amazed im not sick of it yet lol
Thanx for your condolences ^_^
This strip speaks the truth. It honestly doesn’t look like the Simpsons will ever end, unless one of their main four actors (Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith) either dies or permanently loses the ability to speak.
Even then there’s voice impersonators.
Honestly, I think they’d find a way to kill off the characters swiftly, and replace them. Or have someone REALLY GOOD at their voices come in. They’ve already survived a serious voice change, if you’ve ever listened to the first season or so.
really who was replaced?
I believe the Voice actor who played etna died.
Not replaced as much as…
Hi, I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me as one of the many Simpson’s characters voiced by the late Phil Hartman.
Troy McClure and all Hartman’s characters were retired out of the show’s respect for him.
Actually, those are the same voice actors, they just hadnt gotten the voices down yet
Nah, they’ll just put their heads in jars, and keep going.
What you did there, I see it. Well done.
I don’t know why you meatbags hold on to all that extra crap, anyway.
IIRC Yeardley Smith is the only one who doesn’t act for more than one character. The show could theoretically just keep on going as VAs die, and as long as Smith wasn’t the last one they could still have characters interacting with each other without having to create new ones.
right around year 10, the voice actors threatened to strike for more money. The story goes that they had a meeting where they brought in several people, and had at least 2 people that could do each voice flawlessly, and demonstrated this to the existing talent. The executives informed them that they already had these people on retainer, in case of accident, and that they had no problems replacing them. the strike was short lived.
It’s not a question of how long the original voice actors will live, it’s one of how long will Billy West.
Which one is he?
Wait, wasn’t he Will Robinson from the original “Lost in Space!“?
Nah, that was Bill Mumy. Y’know; Lennier from Babylon 5?
Imagine Bart with an iron collar around his neck, forced by his pimp to turn tricks behind the 7-11, and you’ll have some idea about what Fox’s attitude towards the show is.
It goes until Seth Macfarlane kills Matt Groening and steals his writing ability. Which he will use to write more dick and fart jokes.
Don’t even joke about that.
Scratch that, he already did it.
Decloaking just to laugh almost unnecessarily hard at this strip.
What about Doctor Who?
Well, the Doctor’s working on his fifth regeneration cycle, and he’s still complaining about not being ginger.
Err thats the 5th since they restarted the show. Doctor Who had at least at least 8 regenreations in the original series (more if you count the red Nose Day Special where he turned into Joanna Lumley (which I do)). So at least 13 in all.
Don’t forget Doctor Hurt, the ‘Lost’ Doctor who was found during the 50th anniversary episode
And the one time he regenerated at the end of the Fourth Series. That counts, even if he only regenerated back to himself.
Don’t believe me? Ask around in the town of Christmas. It’s this quaint little town on Transilor, and no one there can speak a lie. They’ll back me up.
Trenzalore is the proper spelling. also, I believe the official count so far is at 13 doctors, but 15-16 regenerations via the BBC’s grand lists o’ stuff. and you forgot the Valeyard regeneration, who does count and is mentioned in a modern episode as well.
Also, since before the days of Homestar Runner I have not been moved to comment much on web things, but I must admit this is currently my favorite webcomic, not just for the stellar content and art, but for some of the most interesting and random, yet -mostly- mature and decent comments sections I’ve yet encountered, which speaks volumes itself.
Nah, KAI is saying fifth CYCLE — so they’re probably technically somewhere between his 65th and 78th regeneration. ;D
At least we have a basic premise for why Doctor Who can continue to go on. He’s basically an immortal who can just become a new dude every time he dies. Bart’s been in the fifth grade for like, 20 years or something. It’s getting a bit silly.
And Maggie has only spoken one word, but she is a master sniper/assassin! o_O
Everyone knows the Simpsons stopped being good in the 67th season, anyway.
What happened to you Simpsons, you used to be cool…
It is called as ‘Executive Meddling’. The changed it, now it sucks.
Troperrific!
I remember when it started on the Tracy Ullman show, I don’t think I will see it end. I also remember when hitch hiker’s guide started with a radio show, at least Douglas Adams knew when to finish something, though he did call it a trilogy in 5 parts.
I’ve always preferred “increasingly inaccurately named hitchhiker’s trilogy.”
Without fail, me describing Hitchhiker’s to people always goes like this:
“It’s a five book trilogy.”
“You know what trilogy means, right?”
“Yes, it’s just that kind of series.”
I love you guys.
yes until I saw this comment I was going to make my own comment about it being the legacy of Tracy Ullman. I wonder if she would be proud of it.
It’d just feel weird to see the Simpsons get cancelled now. Yeah, it has had a severe drop in quality for the past decade, but I cant even remember a time when it wasnt on anymore.
I can’t be objective with the simpsons because down here the network who has them has soured me, but – yay new Platinum Black!
South Park is my generation’s Simpsons. It’s about as old now as Simpsons was when I was a kid. Ugh.
Have no fears, they have stories for … undying centuries …
I’m already loving Platinum Black. Thank you for taking the extra time to make it along with MGDMT.
Jared sitting on Mr. Fishy is one of the cutest weird things I’ve seen in a while. Excellent use of your giant fish, kid.
The people aged 20-35 are The Simpsons Generation. The show was their shared cultural reference point through childhood, they can quote verbatim from any episode in the forst 10 season’s and beyond. If The Simpsons is on the TV in a bar you will see them mouthing the words along with the characters. My children are of that generation, they don’t watch the modern simpsons episodes at all, now it is just like any kids show endlessly repeated on cable channels.
The Simpsons was an amazing cultural phenomenom, the only other comparable thing I can think of is the beatles or Elvis.
Star Trek.
And Star Wars.
Star trek and star wars don’t even come close. For a start the fanatical following only developed much later and was from a much narrower segment of the population. Those things are from my childhood, but no-one I knew from my childhood was at all interested in them, I knew more fans for rocky horror than star trek.
In primary school, had 2 friends who were nuts about Star Wars when it first came out (one even had a sister named Leia) one of them even used a stylized Star Destroyer as part of his signature (and he would have been under 10 at the time)
I didn’t see a comment section on Platinum Black’s site, so I thought I’d comment here! So excited about the new pages and comic in general. Your coloring and paneling are looking gorgeous. I’ve been dying to see your characters in action since I first watched you on dA (7-ish years ago?), so I can’t explain how giddy it makes me to see it all come to fruition.
And MGDMT has been a constant source of laughs and amusement too. It’s inspiring to see you kicking ass all over the internet.
I’ll take this comic trade any day!
Don’t get me wrong, I come for my Manly Guys religiously, but Platinum Black is such a trip for me.
And the art work kicks my eye’s ass harder every time. Last two pages extra hard.
This is AWESOME!! CBR lets the world know of the goodness of this strip!! http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2014/08/manly-men-i-gotta-be-a-macho/
it’s where i tune in to get all my news!
