Sorry my updates have been kinda flaky lately, but I leave for Christmas with my folks at the end of this week and I’ve had a lot of stuff at the studio to get in order before I can go. I spent the weekend hammering at some freelance, but I should have time to do the comic tonight. Sorry for the holdup but… eh… I have a job…
To the handful of people who are seeing weird spam links, I’m aware of them, I have no idea what they are or how they got in, but I hired a guy to run through the site and revamp it. He’s just working through some previous engagements, it seems.
You have a job? No way!
Wait, I think i have one of those…or at lest, last i checked. 0_o
Personally, I feel that you-not-starving is rather conductive for this comic in the long run, so no complaints here.
I doubt anyone is stressed. You’ve always been pretty forthcoming about delays and such, so we know how things go sometimes.
Plus, you know, you gotta a job and stuff.
Man, now I’m jealous of whomever hired your services. They’ve got a great artist who’s producing artwork I can’t see :(
But you can see it! watch good Vibes on MTV and you might see one of the episodes she worked on :P
No problem! It’s nice when an artist lets us know the status of a late comic. It makes us feel loved. *sniff* Thanks!
Ditto. Lately, a few artists aren’t even that well-mannered to tell us there’s a problem or delay until like a week later, letting us sit there and wait. I won’t mention any names, but on one popular comic there wasn’t a new comic for three weeks, and then the artists/writer jumped on the site to say, “OH HAY WE HAS NO UPDATES, WILL HAS NO UPDATES FOR NEXT FOUR WEEKS, AND WE JUST THOUGHT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT NOW. KTHNX.”
And then they didn’t show up five weeks later to tell us that they had posted a new comic and would resume like usual.
So thank you for not being like them.
Is anyone else seeing a list of spam terms and no comic?
Aye, me too
Yep – me too. For those that it may matter to, this is what we are seeing. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b268/structuralpoke/Aviary20thepunchlineismachismo-com2.png
I’ll heckle the guy who said he’d help me fix it :/ Only a handful of people see the page like that, but it seems like it’s getting worse.
Unless you mean you see no comic on this specific post, in which case… it’s a text post explaining why there’s no comic yet…
Looking carefully at that image, it appears that the spam is right above your post, even above the title and the “previous” button.
I have no idea what this means, I’m just pointing it out to someone who knows.
yeah – I figured there was no comic. Just showing you the spam links. As noted below – it appeared that commenting made them go away. Wonder what will mean for my site now that I’ve added the URL and now have a link here.
if nothing else you know where to go for a Viagra hookup
I find it happens every time i check in (the first time only each time) from an RSS reader. I emailed him about it, but either it got deleted in a spam filter or he deleted it himself. T_T
I see nothing but I thought this was just a written update anyway.
Take all the time you need. We know you have a life, like everyone else, and as long as you give us a comic eventually that’s fine. I am willing to wait for the quality work you produce on your own time and enjoy sharing with us. :3
Huh. Y’know, I’ve been having that problem for a while now on my work computer, this reminded me to play around with what could be causing it, so I started testing on my laptop on the same network, etc.
Turns out there’s a couple of cookies, and clearing them out makes the inserted spam go away. So you can let people know that will fix the issue once they appear. I wish I had copied the cookies before deleting, they said something about a widget (they were in addition to the two cookies for my commenting nick and email).
Oh, spoke too soon, now they’re back… hm…. gonna leave this comment on my laptop, which hasn’t had the problem before.
Curioser and curiouser. Commenting did make them appear on my hither-to unaffected laptop. However, the cookie named “widget_page-309953” doesn’t seem to have anything to do with it.
Clearing “comment_author_[some hex value]” and “comment_author_email_[some hex value]” makes the spam-insert vanish, commenting and having them set again makes it reappear. May be some injection happening further up the network that only happens when it detects those cookies in the request. Maybe targeting WordPress specifically?
time for me to run CrapCleaner it sounds like…
Well, as I said below, the widget_page cookies doesn’t seem to be causing the spam insert, so it’s probably a legit wordpress thing. The comment_author and comment_author_email cookies, however, seem to trigger it, and they’re for auto-populating the name and email fields in these comments.
“Legit” WordPress thing might be inaccurate. My nothing page got some malicious code added a while back. I found a rogue folder under the wp-content/uploads directory in one of the dated folders. Had the 01, 02, etc folders and then something like “sun” or something like that.
No worries C-squid. Your comics are worth the wait. XD
You can take as much time as you like, that’s what RSS feeds are for – I’ll just wait until I get something to click on. Of course, sometimes the thing to click on is just a thing explaining why there’s no thing to click on, and that’s sad.
Indeed.
You mean there was a regular schedule? I thought this was one of those “I’ll update it once in a while, or whatever” comics. Meh, delays like this aren’t a big deal. The magic of the RSS feed means that I don’t really notice delays.
Have a happy fat-bearded-guy-giving-out-presents day everyone!
It’s updated nearly a hundred Mondays in a row, and it’s never been more than a day late.
I only started reading recently, so I never knew if previous ones were late or not. The archives are ALWAYS on time!
Mussolini made the archives run on time.
If you need a great small team of REAL people who do website work, my friend Chris owns a company called Binary Sprocket. They specialize in WordPress style sites, but can do damn near anything you ask, including PHP and HTML5.
You can find them at http://www.binarysprocket.com/
I still can’t get over how adorable Commander Badass’s daughter is.
I just realized that I’m pretty sure I put this comment in the wrong post. Oops!
And, so I’m not completely wasting space, I always say that real life comes first. Scary Solstice to you all!
No biggie about the wait. Priorities are priorities.
It’s amazing how there’s another world not on the Internets where we have to work to have a warm room, food and a connection. I mean, it seems unreal that this world exists, but here it is. The Real. Right here.

Whoops, commented on the wrong thing
Woohoo! Bishie Mr. Fish!
