Every girl’s crazy for a sharp dressed man

I am charmed that all the happy married for 10+ years couples I know on the East coast have been flooding my Facebook feed with their family cosplays for NYCC, I love people who are just sincerely enthusiastic about the things they like.
Dang! She looks amazing!
They look perfect together.
Then again, they had irreconcilable differences, for example, Mady’s forbiding of midnight wrestling with bulls.
If I looked this good I’d be dressing up all the time! Lobster is really rocking that vampire outfit.
Why wait? You look amazing today!
Good to see you back on track, keep up the good work. I personally love your style.
Rock Lobster is damn close to *AUDIBLE GLEAM* levels of sharp
You could cut diamonds with that glorious beard.
He does look great. So does she, they look great together.
I just super like how his own dude rock is, has he ever dicked around with ‘what someone like him *should* be like’?
There’s part of me that feels like “has he ever dicked around with ‘what someone like him *should* be like’” is a euphemism for how he used to date the big angry cyborg hahaha
Omg, that’s brilliant, you’re brilliant. I think things like that and then I’m surrounded by people who can’t see the joke. This is why I love you, Coelasquid.
This, and some other equally valid reasons
Well the sad thing is… kinda, yeah, the government really messed with him and his siblings a lot. But he managed to mostly put a stop to it.
I kinda love how there’s a whole “sci-fi civil rights” movie hidden in the Rock’s backstory, but it’s not all he is. He’s got an impressive amount of depth, especially for a character from a comedy webcomic, and Coela did a great job in making him.
Can Commander Badass please be a real person and may I date him please
Thank you.
After I have a go at him, and I just want to hang out.
The photo would make a pretty good standalone piece of art.
Also, since I don’t have a twitter account, I’m just going to leave this possible alternative to 1.5x speed Careless Whisper sax here.
Good lord, I want to look that fancy! Can I look that fancy? (Very well depicted!)
…All he needs to do is tame another flame, while croche-bull-riding a dolphin and I’ll simply die from jealousy and awe.
It’s also Really interesting to learn about Jonesy, by her reaction, in that she isn’t the least bit intimidated or jealous, or even wistful about that seriously deep love in their eyes for one another. No ‘would we have that?’
I suspect that, in the grand scheme of things, it would be Jonsey getting froo froo’d up for Commander, not the other way around. She really doesn’t strike me as the corset and 5-layered-skirts type…
Haha, only if she was actively showering to wash all 5 skirts, and corsets at once, while washing bras and dishes, mind you lol.
Not exactly jealous, but still a little too fast to assume that Rock Lobster put on the frilly clothes only to please his wife, and not because it was something he was enjoying doing anyway.
So I would say there is a bit of defensiveness to her reaction.
I suspect Jonesy cannot imagine somebody actually wanting to wear fussy clothes, and therefore assumes Commander must have done it to please someone else.
They DO look wicked togeths, but I’ll admit I had to go back and slowly, deliberately, look at Maddie out of context, because damn was Commander stealing that show!
Huh, I see it as pretty 50/50. They’re both, if you’ll pardon a little melodrama, resplendent. Every little detail of both of them is magnificent and alluring – there’s Rock’s red leather jacket, ruffled cravat, and flawlessly trimmed beard, but also Maddie’s flowing skirts, cinched corset, and that fur behind her neck. No, the black fur, not her glorious mane that puts even free-range fire to shame. Closer inspection shows Rock’s muscles bulging as they dance, equally alluring hints of flesh at Maddy’s bust and thighs, and perhaps most of all, the passion and love in their locked gaze.
It takes two to tango, and these two made a pretty kickass team.
It’s adorable that Rock’s semi-offended that she thinks that he dressed up just for the ex-wife and that he wouldn’t do that normally. To be fair, I can’t remember a time that he’s worn a shirt that actually covered his chest except for when he got that anime-disease thing.
In fairness, we learned that that outfit is the fault of the upper brass, who figured it would boost toy sales, back in the anime arc.
…the shame at knowing that off the top of my head. I can even picture the panel and Rock’s shocked/outraged expression. Coelasquid, what have you done to me!
Also, 10/10 would give ALL the kisses to Rock Lobster in that outfit. That beard…mmmmmmmph!
Hahaha he always wears tank tops and flannel shirts in strips where he’s not at work. He doesn’t like to wear that uniform a second longer than he’s paid to.
That reminds me, are we likely to see that MEGA LOBSTER civilian uniform again? It popped into my head the other day and I started giggling out loud.
Another comment downstream reminded me, Rock did appear nicely dressed on another occasion, and it was another costumed party.
He was dressed as Disney’s Beast, and Jones was Elisa Maza.
According to the alt-text, I must assume that the corset and the jacket worn in the photo are both ZZ brand.
Maddie looks kind of like a goth Rose Quartz here and I love it.
Really like the Commander’s sexy beard. He’s one fedora away from a damn good Joseph Jostar cosplay and I love it.
Sometimes a man just wants to feel pretty, damnit!
Since he’s dressed up as a “sexy vampire,” shouldn’t the title be…
“Every girl’s crazy for a sharp TOOTHED man”?
Itvis me or what I’m seeing is Beast’princely form in that photo? And kudos to the artista because the nuances in the picture give me a big case of conflicting and very interesting feels. And the comeback… Yes, men can usually want to be pretty. It happens.
Um… and a post scriptum… are maddie and rock dressing steampunk?
I don’t believe I’ve said congratulations on your marriage! Late congratulations! You two look so badass in all of your photos. May you continue to be lovable bamfs.
Hey Squid, Commander dropped an “s” in that last panel (“dresing”)
Thanks for keeping on top of the comic, hope your life is cooling down a little.
Goodness, he looks like the Dracula Castlevania desperately needs.
Fact is, he dragged her to that shin-dig, she was going to make an excuse about not going
If I had something that cool I’d wear it as my day wear.
I like the idea of a big fancy dress mixer hosted by a pillow fight league.
That’s not her job hahaha, just a hobby.
Wait, what is her job? We never really got a backstory on Maddie; is she even from our time, or is she from the space-future mandatory-slums-as-social-commentary-on-capitalism and she and Rock decided to settle down with a white picket fence in the suburbs, but couldn’t afford it on the space-future government paycheck so they had to travel back to when suburbs were affordable?
Ok, wow, my imagination got the best of me there.
I always figured she worked some high-end retail job like a personal shopper in a pricey clothing store or something and makes bank. I feel like she’s probably Southern, but not like, aggressively Texas pride style southern, probably an only child, comes from an old-money kinda upper-middle-class family, probably was pretty active on the pageant scene in her youth.
She’s from the same time he is, they just set up camp at this point in time mostly because Rock wanted to get away from the Spacefuture and they all settled in and got used to it.
Alright, now I have to change the voice I hear when reading her lines from Bostonion Brawler to Southern Belle…
Huh.
I figured that Maddie was from our time. Maddie also being from the future puts a number of the previous strips in a different light.
SO with that in mind, were the kids born at this point and always were there or were they born in the distant spacefuture and brought back to grow up better adjusted before they were old enough to know better?
Also, how much do the kids know of their father’s job/abilities?
They know their dad can beat up your dad.
Their dad can beat up their dad. We’ve seen it happen!
Goddamn Commander is rocking the squared beard look there. Honestly if he wanted to do the whole stern authoritarian thing full time he could 100% do it.
My ovaries are singing looking at that pic, and I don’t even have ovaries~
Seriously, I took one look and just went . . . ‘Oh my god~!” and covered my mouth.
… Meanwhile I want to get in contact with his tailor. I like well fitting suits!
man, he looks awesome dressed like that.
Wait, isint that what he’s supposed to be ? permanently awesome ?
:P
What is a man?
A mis… A misera… A misterable little… hot damn I can’t even finish it.
A MAGNIFICENT AND HUGE PILE OF SMOLDER! But enough talk, CUE THE MUSIC!
Rock Lobster, Symphony of Might.
Well, looking nice, elegant and amazing…neat :3
Don’t suppose we can get that picture as a wallpaper?
Seconded. Even the background adds to the glory of a perfectly composed panel.
That is a really nice picture. You can really see the love between them. Makes it a bit sadder that the marriage didn’t work out, but gives another glimpse of how they’re staying such good co-parents and possibly friends.
Can’t blame Jonesy too much for thinking Rock had to be talked into dressing up. Most guys I’ve known haven’t been too big on the Getting Frou-Frou’d Up thing. To each their own! It’s just another nice layer to the Commander!
IDK why, but I like the freckled cleavage. It’s real, but I don’t see it in art often, like books opened to the first page or bags hanging on doorknobs.
Freckles are great. It’s the thighs that surprised me, though – cleavage is one thing, but I’m not used to gals wearing dresses.
Why do I want to say he’s cosplaying as Slayer from Guilty Gear in that photo?
Is there any way we can get a hold of a full-sized, perhaps even wallpaper-sized, image of the picture itself?!
hmmm for some reason the picture reminds me oh an old tailspin episode
One where Rebeca falls in love with the ghost of a ships captain…
They did look great together. Amazing how so many people do yet do not really belong together. A class act that he enjoys that kind of garment as well. While they look nice are they not very hot to wear?
Oh, they’re hot to wear alright. You do see him in that panel don’t you?
Wait, we’re talking about a different kind of heat aren’t we? Suits can be pretty terrible as far as temperature goes, yeah. They’re way too cold when it’s cold and they’re way too hot even if you’re just under a bright light for too long. Then again I’ve only ever worn solid black, cheaply made suits. Higher end ones might be more comfortable.
Pretty sure everyone can agree that Rock looks pretty hot in that outfit.
Please can we have more of Rock dressin’ up nice an’ goin’ to parties?
(I would also like to see Jones’ take on this…)
I remember once when there were jokes instead of constant lectures on gender stereotypes.
Sorry I think you must be confusing this with a different webcomic.
I remember when there weren’t assholes in the comments section.
Shit dude, when was that?
El oh el XD
I think you might also be confusing this with a different webcomic.
The joke has literally always been gender stereotypes. I don’t understand why this is just upsetting to you now.
I remember when people reading this webcomic knew that gender stereotypes were a pretty huge part of the humor to begin with.
Those were fun times.
Sweetie, the URL for the site is, ‘the punchline is machismo’. There’s a pretty big clue as to content right there…
If you really don’t get the joke, then you probably ARE the joke.
And Jonsey gets more and more unlikable.
I think of her as the kind of person who doesn’t understand what it’s like to really care about something, so on one hand she’s chill and doesn’t demand things and doesn’t read to far into it if you have to switch plans on her but on the other she thinks it’s kinda weird when other people get really emotionally invested in something. She’s not perfect, but she’s a very different person from Maddie, who is focused and driven and likes things the way she likes them and doesn’t like to accommodate other people.
I appreciate the explanation, but I still find her too judgmental right now. She’s always shitting on the Commander’s hobbies and likes outside of the macho-dudebro stuff that he’s repeatedly stated, he’s not 100% into. I don’t know, I just think by now, Jonsey shouldn’t be surprised by something like this. And not to get too “feministy,” but that misogynistic outlook; ugh.
She spent like some untold number of weeks living in a survival dome with him wearing a suit of plate armour, that’s not really “shitting on his hobbies”.
She just a jeans-and-t-shirts kind of person who doesn’t understand why anyone who isn’t a fussy froo froo type would want to wear fussy froo froo clothes. That’s not even a macho thing, she wouldn’t be questioning why like, Dracula would wear frilly elaborate clothes. Just doesn’t expect the guy who almost exclusively wears flannel and tank tops in his down time to enjoy wearing a million layers of formalwear and ruffles.
One would think a woman who’d go on a future-super-marine-death-match in a biodome wouldn’t laugh at her boyfriend dressing like a vampire for Halloween of all things, nor think of it as an act of charity on his part, but I suppose that’s just me and how I think. Can’t say I’ll ever warm up to Jonesey until she grows out of this judgmental and lazy mindset though. Sorry.
Sounds like Jones isn’t the only judgmental one…
Difference between me and Jonesy; I get put off by negative/toxic traits, she laughs at and picks on the completely harmless due to sexist standards she’s yet to grow out of.
Awesome on so many levels. <3
I LOVE the ruffles on Rock! He looks so dashing and debonair! His ex looks good, too!
Since I was young I had always lamented the lack of fashion options for men. Women have SO many more options. Skirts, pants, slacks, shorts, dresses, heels, flats, boots. You name it, women have it. I always wanted to dress like an anime supervillain, but there were so few options available to me.
Now that I’m an adult, I dress as dapper as I want every damn day: http://imgur.com/mtQEfoK
Starting from the top you can see my Scala top hat. It’s their “Mad Hatter” style, and in the hat band I’ve stuck a ten of hearts, and a six of hearts. (10/6 in this style.)
The blazer was taken in to give it a more modern look, and I stuck the Tomorrowland pin in the lapel. (Love that movie.) The pocket square has four different patterns in the four different corners. I have them all on display.
I wish I had rolled back the sleeves for the purple shirt, as the cuffs have this beautiful orange paisley pattern.
Going with a three piece suit, and yes, I do tie my bow ties myself. This particular bow tie I affectionately call “Wonder Bread.”
At my hip is The Pink Lady, by Charter Arms. I had the grip swapped out for one that has the rubber wrap all the way around. It’s a 38 special, +P caliber, and kicks like a son of a bitch. BUT IT’S SO PRETTY! I mostly got it because it shares the name of my favorite artist from Portland.
The umbrella is an Unbreakable Umbrella, developed specifically for self defense. (I’ve also had a history of breaking umbrellas.)
And that’s it, save for a pair of black slacks and a pair of running shoes. (I like to be practical in case of emergencies.) I’m complimented almost everywhere I go, and it feels great ^3^
I’ve got two other hats from Scala: a bowler, and a purple top hat. I highly recommend checking out their selections.
Odd. My pancake craving has disappeared.
And once more, I’m not certain whether I want to be Rock or date him.
God bless this comic.
There are so many good comments, but that costume does highlight: Wow, Maddie really does have freckles everywhere.
(That is such an awesome shot)
Rite I am so here for Maddie’s freckles
Can we have a few strips with sexy vampire Rock in an alternate sexy vampire universe? Maybe even with the rest of the cast as sexy vampires/werewolves/hunters/whatevers. Because that would be classy as heck and some of them would fit right in (like Ace, he would rock that look).
I don’t really care for the vampire romance genre, I just really dig the Van Helsing aesthetic.
PLOT TWIST: In that universe Ace is a pikey vampire from Edinburgh who thinks the “formal wear and melodramatic brooding 24/7” is utter ponce. For extra comedy he’s still of Asian heritage.
The world needs more buff, blonde, bearded vampires.
Can’t help but see the freckles on her thigh and think about all the lines Jadzea Dax used to get in DS9 about “How far do those spots go?” and “All the way!” in response.
I have a suit like that, but you would have to turn his torso upside down to get the dimensions right.
This picture of her reminds me a bit of Rose from Steven Universe. Is it just me?
I would totally dress up like that if I had the money to afford the clothes. Also if I had occassions… I’m not very social and partying isn’t my thing. But I like nice things, and that include nice clothes.
Ah, another reminder of how not-straight I am, good to see you too!
Hang in there. :D
Stay healthy.
Nice page.
Apparently, a Sharp Dressed Man does not require wearing pants.
look up & review the lyrics…
