Okay I lied

Didn’t actually have time to do a proper regular update, followed the convention immediately with a move, so I spent all weekend unpacking boxes and only had about two hours to draw something for the site.
So here’s what I felt the entire time I was slugging through the Yokai case in AA5, I’ve never felt more validated to see a character get tazed.
But hey, Platinum Black has three new pages. (nsfw warning for a topless lady character)
Glad I am not the only one that was happy to see him tazed. Moving always sucks, but it does make you clean out your stuff.
For me, that “clean out your stuff” means “lose random items that you keep looking for for but can never find.”
I find that moving makes you look at items and go “do I really need this”, “how often does this really come in handy”. You get rid of a lot of stuff that way, at least in my experience.
In my case I simply resolve to just not move. I have a comfy chair.
Someone bring me food please.
My mom will kick my ass if i behave like that ^^;;
*FYI, i’m single, & i’m staying at my house, also with my lil’ sister, because dad got Alzheimer. So… Yeah…
Hey hey hey~ Thanx for the update! ^_^ Oh, & thanx for the Platinum Black too.
Btw, if you start concentrating on PB, does that mean you will do MGDMT & PB simultaneously?? Or will we see the ending of MGMDT (i hope not)
*Ending as in, the happy ending of Commander, Jared, & everyone in the MGDMT-verse
Yay for apocalypses!
LA! LA! HELIX FTHGN!
You know what I actually want in the ace attorney games? An unrepentant antagonist.
Every single prosecutor has been sympathetic, with the exclusion of Manny. Most of the games end with them on your side, covering your back as you take out the bad guy.
I want more like Manny, where it’s a fight to the bitter end. Someone who’s actually trying to get the innocent convicted, you know?
Isn’t Von Karma just that though? I’m pretty sure he was evil the whole time without a change of heart
Yeah, Manny was awesome. I loved fighting Manny. I want more like him.
Oh, you call him Manny… I thought you meant Manny the actual character :/
Don’t forget Kristoph! He was an asshole 110% of the time.
Kristoph was a defense attorney though
An asshole, yeah. I hated him. But he wasn’t really villainous. He didn’t even TRY to be evil.
Like how he planned ahead to poison a little girl and her father with an agonizing poison because they were no longer useful to him?
Yeah. Totally not evil. I do that every Tuesday.
Wrong Gavin. Or maybe I had the wrong Gavin.
The evil one wasn’t a prosecutor. Only a witness/murderer like everyone else you put in prison.
Kristoph’s the bad one. Klavier’s the Prosecutor.
The Prosecutors aren’t usually the real bad guys, though. They’re just doing their jobs, the real villains are the criminals.
Von Karma was BOTH
You mean like Quercus Alba from Ace Attorney Investigations? or Matt Engarde?
No, those are non-prosecutor antagonists, although they are ruthless and merciless.
List of all the 100% despicable folks in the series (excluding AA6):

Disputable: Shadi Enigmar / Zak Gramarye. Did not kill anyone but was a ripe sod.

Japanese exclusive cases (with fanslation names):
Manosuke Naito / Horace Knightley
Bainsai Ichiyanagi / Blaise Debeste

Jezail Brett (presumably)
Cosney Megundal
That’s all I can think of.
I am still impressed that you’re consistently getting -something- up weekly, as with all the chaos in your life, you’re more than entitled to take a week or two off from things (including filler).
On the subject of PB, though, I just checked it out – Sayer reminds me of Jared plus muscle (which is why he dressed up as him in last week’s filler – haven’t met Rock’s character yet). Great use of color to set the mood, with shadowy nighttime activities and bright days on the Archipelago sea. Congratulations on getting it up and running, and I hope it blossoms into a successful passion project.
Let’s be honest : no one actually rants about you making filler instead of “legit” updates.*
Just seeing that unread entry in my RSS feeds makes me happy. I don’t care if it’s part of the storyline, or a one-shot joke, or “just” a filler joke. ’cause I’m gonna have a good laugh while looking at gorgeous art anyway, so what the hell ? And I AM PRETTY SURE everyone else here thinks the same**. Because this is one of those few webcomics with an actual respectful fanbase, respectful in regard to your work, your schedule, your personal need to get some rest, and your friggin’ right to do whatever you want anyway ’cause guess what ? you owe us nothing, and you already know that. I guess the “respect” we could ask for in return would be for you to stop assuming we’re self-centered fucks who’re gonna bitch about you not drawing-shading-coloring an “actual”, 7 panels strip every week. But yeah, we love you and your work enough to forgive you for that (also I know that you don’t actually assume that we are).
Also I already love Platinum Black. I’m heading over there right now to read those 3 updates yer talking about. Been hyped the whole time I’ve been typing this.
* And those who do deserve some face-time with the Commander.
** And those who don’t deserve some face-time with the Commander.
This is highly interesting, because I’ve actually been playing through AA5 for the 2nd time and I’m the opening trial of the yokai case. I should start playing it faster so there is more AA-related filler.
Joking aside, I’m pretty sure he’s right – we don’t complain or rant about the content or timing of your updates, because we know it’s always going to be great no matter what it may be. And we know you have commitments that need to be met – so go on, put them first. We’ll still be rooting for you all the way.
I feel the same way. But to be honest, I’d LOVE some face time with Rock Lobster he is e*** and awesome. I want his autograph.
Note: the censored word has been censored due to my current lack of funds for the jar.
I would… love some… face-time with the Commander. ;)
Haha, never knew you were an actual AA fan. I just thought you drew Edgeworth that one time because his design looked interesting to you. Anyways, nice work. Shame there wasn’t enough time for you to color it.
Just found MGDMT, and I adore it. You are so awesome that you transcend needing-to-get-all-the-references, which is really impressive. (I don’t actually play any games that aren’t available for PC, but I still love the comic.)
I didn’t find tall, dark ronin guy very annoying, to be honest, even at that point! I kinda fast-forwarded through the tasing.
Then I stayed for it when playing that case again after having completely beaten the game and it…it kinda hurt…that tasing is no longer satisfying or comfortable for me. *shudder*
I heartily welcome filler, because it shows that you care about your readers. There are some comics that I adore(d) *COUGHBOXERHOCKEYCOUGH* where the author just does nothing and nothing for months at a stretch, and then comes back to woefully announce the coming two or three month hiatus, as though they hadn’t already been on one. These little things speak volumes to me, about how the author appreciates their audience.
I don’t think you should create something that people fall in love with, and then just ignore it, and them. If you’re finished with it, you’ve gotta wrap it up. Or if you’re not finished, and just don’t have the time to write more content for that thing, at least put up something once in a while to let everyone know you still think about that thing you created, and about them. When you put up a filler page, that’s what you are doing, and you have all my respect for doing it.
That’s the thing; this whole comic has always been unrepentant joke/filler, just a thing she does when she has moments. Which is cool. But now we get filler… for the filler… containing ads for non-filler by the same artist… Which somehow happens while the artist is too busy to make filler.
This feels more like “taking things bold new directions”. Which is her right as an artist, but it would have been nice to see this cliffhanger resolved first.
We’ve seen p4 as a preview many weeks ago. Chances are that the strips that we see being posted now were done while Coela had the time. Besides, only the second ‘filler-filler’ was an ad.
So, how is this arc also filler?
Cool it with the accusations dude, I went directly from a big convention to a move with no breathing room in between, I have had no time for anything outside of work. I drew those Platinum black pages two months ago so I would have content prepared for the launch of the comic. I wanted to finish this arc the week I did TCAF more than anything but there was. not. time.
Oh boy Coelasquid do I have something for you. http://m.youtube.com/channel/UCj87rh1qxUIJUb9pXVb81Ew This person has managed to gather up a nicely sized group to do dubbings of the various AA games. He has recently been working on Dual Destinies, and is currently on the first trial segment of the Yokai case.
This panel pretty much covers how I felt when Justin Beiber was being questioned on the stand.
I am so eager to be able to post comments on the new strip by the way. :)
You did this in 2 hours? The best I can do in that timeframe is stick figures.
I’m sure everyone is going eggshot bananas for tomorrow and the hope of a new comic, but take it easy on yourself
after all, if you break yourself or anything, we wouldn’t get any comics AT ALL.
I’m looking forward to (hopefully) a continuation tomorrow – personally I’d rather want nothing at all than “filler” but also because you shouldn’t feel obligated to push yourself if you’re tired and what not.
that being said, week before last still had relevance and last week did give us a great new comic, and this week had (although I never played the game? so I don’t get the reference) a great *raster* comic (raster comics are pretty hard to make!)
:)
Ugh! That yokai case was without a doubt the most awful, awful Ace Attorney experience to play through. I get cringing second-hand embarrassment for characters and stuff pretty easily, but for most the of the game I had more of an anger/bemusement reaction to Prosecutor Blackwell’s dialogue. Like, maybe I had just lost the ability to connect the dots of information that dialogue presents to form a full picture of understanding (I fully recognize that this is a legitimate possibility for me), but it seemed to me that the guy could flip-flop at a moment’s notice – go from saying one thing to supporting something completely contradictory in the span of a couple of lines of his own dialogue, without outside influence. Sometimes directly opposing things I just proved, or proved repeatedly. D-did that really happen, or did he actually at any point make sense and I’m just not remembering it? I don’t think he was really an expert at “the power of suggestion” so much as he was a belligerent tantrum baby. Is all this the reason for the embarrassment you felt for him, too? Was it as nonsensical to you, too? Please don’t let me be alone.
I am having strong sleepy feelings about this now. I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Aaahhh, I wanted to like the game so badly and I felt like that case represented most of what made it difficult to actually like. :(
