The low stakes adventures of an assorted group of 20 somethings trapped in the declining years of American retail. They are naughty and say lots of swears.
Im personally impressed that he got kicked out of the trainer’s league with that repertoire of attacks. I thought he knew “swallow tiny baby whole” also. That’s a trick, right?
Basic needs? I suppose sleeping isnt a basic need for Pokemon considering they need a move “rest” to even consider trying to fall asleep on their own. Otherwise they need to find a wild jigglypuff any time they get sleepy.
Actually when you get a pokémon that’s too high-leveled for you/hates you and thus refuses to obey you, they can decide to ditch everything and take a nap. Or at least it could happen in the first generation games (and maybe the second, can’t remember for sure), after that I haven’t played.
So yeah pokémon can take a nappy-time on their own, but only out of spite. (and not Spite the move)
I actually had that quote stuck in my head earlier today. Now I know why; Mr. Fish has used his insurmountable psychic ability to spread his mighty philosophy.
I seeeeeee what Jared’s doing thar. Roll can get quite powerful if your accuracy is high enough. It’s a rock-type move too, so it’ll be good against any pesky flying-types.
I can’t remember offhand if Gyarados can learn Fly…
How is this biologically possible?! I mean sure, Doduo and Dodrio can fly in spite of being ostriches and having no visible wings whatsoever, but at least they are birds! Pikachu is a mouse! What’s it going to do? Reverse its polarity so that it hovers like Magneto?
When I heard pikachu can fly, the first thing I thought of was groups of them flying around shootibg lightning bolts at each other with ‘highway to the danger zone’ playing. Thank you for that beautiful image.
Flying in formation with Ride of the Valkyries playing. …or at least them singing it. Pi-pi-pipi-pi pi, pi-pipi-pi pi, pi-pipi-pi pi, pi-kaka-chuuuu. And that was a lot harder to type out than I thought it would be.
I’m seeing them bombing a town with thunder bolts in aviator helmets with ‘Ode de joy’ in the background, Weedles and mr. mimes running in terror as their village is leveled by the red pika baron.
Funny thing; In Pokemon Red and Blue, if you walk along the west (At least, I think it’s west) shore, you find Missingno, and if you level up the aforementioned Missingno (Once is all it takes), it evolves into a level 1 Kanghaskhan that knows fly. Also, level 400-some Nidorinos and Nidorinas.
I was playing a pokemon game for the first time and got a Magikarp, and decided to name it Mr. Fish. Then I kept tossing it at things til it became a Garados. Then I realized it was female. The name got a bit funnier at that point….
I’m glad you’ve finally shown that using Mr. Fish to beat Pokemon into submission has finally had an effect on poor Mr. Fish. As if the eyes didn’t give it away lol. Good work!
Or at least, the way he trained Mr. Fish (which you have to admit is far more interesting than anything outside the games themselves depict it as, and still more interesting than that).
This comic made me smile, I’m not sure if it’s the fact that he taught his gigantic sea monster tricks, or the final line but it got a good laugh out of me as well. Then again every comic involving Mr. Fish does, not that I don’t find the others amusing as well.
On the subject of art, I kind of like it without the shading. It looks nice, different, but still nice.
Found this webcomic today, and after reading from beginning to current… the ammount of win is ungodly impossibly win. XD If there were gods of gaming, macho, and random schenanigens… they would all be considering retirement with you in their stead. Keep up the awesome, and shading or not, the humor and style you have is classic.
…that’s not terribly worrying. Now, a trainer missing their Raichu, that’s a little worrying. But for the love of frak, if you don’t evolve the dang thing…. why worry about it?
you work for ugly americans? my friend turned me onto that show. it’s weird, but the kind of weird i can get behind. oh and props for the genghis khan quote
haha i’m liking the lazy eye you gave Mr Fish.
That, combined with his single facial expression, gives him character that no amount of dialogue with Jared could ever construct.
btw, i showed this strip to a few of my friends.
we laughed for about an hour and a half at the “Jared” story; we had been hooked on pokemon for about six months before these events had transpired.
Liar. A good Gyarados has at least a Thunder Fang or something. Silly kid, special beam attacks are for things that aren’t made of slab armor and giant teeth.
I’ll have you know that Mr Fish appeared in a dream I had the other night. And he was romping around in a neighborhood with pools in their back yards, and wouldn’t come to me when I called him. I am serious…. I love this comic so much. :)
The shape of Mr. Fish’s face in the last panel reminds me of Hercule from Dragon Ball Z. HEY!! WHY NOT PUT HIM IN A COMIC TRYING BUT FAILING TO ENTER THE GROUP OR SOMETHING!!? THAT’D BE FREAKIN’ HILARIOUS!! MAKING FUN OF THAT GUY NEVER STOPS BEING FUNNY!!!
I imagined the guy to have a very ummmm… baby-talk like voice whilst conversing with Mr. Fish. Is that correct?
Funny, I imagined him more as an excited little kid with his pet. :P
Heh, 4 moves. Long time lurker, first time poster – you do great work, always get a laugh from me.
I was wondering why I stayed up till 3am.
NOW I KNOW WHY.
I really enjoy mr fish for some reason.
I love Mr. Fish too. I think everyone does.
What other tricks does Mr. Fish know? And what got replaced by “Roll Over?”
Play dead, fetch, and balance a treat on his nose. Gave up on Sit Up.
Im personally impressed that he got kicked out of the trainer’s league with that repertoire of attacks. I thought he knew “swallow tiny baby whole” also. That’s a trick, right?
There’s attacks. And then there’s basic needs. Like eating. Pikachus.
Basic needs? I suppose sleeping isnt a basic need for Pokemon considering they need a move “rest” to even consider trying to fall asleep on their own. Otherwise they need to find a wild jigglypuff any time they get sleepy.
Touche.
Happens in all generations.
Is it normal for you to fall asleep and find all your wounds and broken bones mended within a few mintues?
That’s right. Pokemon don’t sleep without being forced to or by learning special tricks.
They’re always sitting there. In your Pokeballs. Waiting. Judging.
That’s funny. If he gave up on “sit up”, then why does he do it in the last panel? XD
Not on command.
Personally I think Gyarados that knows rollout is terrifying enough.
Oh good god…
First thing I thought at this?
“Poketrons, ROLL OUT!”
Woo. Where’s the shading?
Hiding some week where I didn’t work 80 hours at my real job.
Apologies. Still quite funny but I must admit some comics I’m into at least partially for eye-candy.
I like to think that the art isn’t a complete write-off without shading.
Hm.My comments just keep coming out wrong. You’re right. Mr. Fish’s expression(s?) and Jared’s exaggerated motions are good, to name a bit :D
Topic shift: What does Mr. Fish want out of life? Hopes/dreams/aspirations.
To crush his enemies, see them driven before him, and hear the lamentations of their women.
I <3 you.
I actually had that quote stuck in my head earlier today. Now I know why; Mr. Fish has used his insurmountable psychic ability to spread his mighty philosophy.
Huh. I would have expected it to be in a nice spacious lake where he can swim and stretch and not feel confined in little offices and swimming pools.
I mean his aspirations would be being in said spacious lake.
Sorry for the double post. I realized that what I said had sounded confusing.
Is there no limit to the length of a chain of replies?
Isn’t that the desire of us all? (brilliant comic.)
In that case, I think that you’d like this little video. Just my way of thanking you and trying to get you to burn even more of your precious time.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/loadingreadyrun/1834-Conans-Witnesses
By Krom! that was hilarious.
LOL dude that was so messed up! XD
To get a better owner! XD Or to die and end the torture now rather than later…
So what sort of reward does Jared give Mr. Fish during the training process?
stray cats, cans of tuna, gummi worms, Bacon and egg McMuffins.
Will that work for my Mr. Rip off Fish? all he does is lurk in the basement and eat the ummm “trash” i throw down
By “trash” do you mean “virgians”?
And by “Mr. Rip off Fish”, do you mean “volcano”?
And by “this post” do I mean, “getting severely off-topic”?
I’m not sure if that’s a misspelling of “virgins” or “Virginians”. Either one would work.
im pretty sure there’s no volcano i’d check but the blue Anaconda isn’t big on vistors
would have been easier with some tasty and delicius pikachus
Will Mr. Fish ever find love in his life? (Just while we’re inquiring into the details of Mr. Fish)
Mr. Fish’s only true love is the sea.
The sea is already married to Mako.
lol
Who (or what) is Mako?
It’s an in-joke from Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged.
A very funny one
Mako-Tsunami, you mean.
And fried pikachu.
I seeeeeee what Jared’s doing thar. Roll can get quite powerful if your accuracy is high enough. It’s a rock-type move too, so it’ll be good against any pesky flying-types.
I can’t remember offhand if Gyarados can learn Fly…
no :(
it’s like one of four flying types that can’t learn it. but pikachu can, apparently.
I seem to remember Gyarados being able to learn fly?
What? Since when? I know really special pikachus can learn surf, but fly? What the heck?!
Since recently. You can get one if you unlocked the Yellow Forest section on the Pokewalker.
How is this biologically possible?! I mean sure, Doduo and Dodrio can fly in spite of being ostriches and having no visible wings whatsoever, but at least they are birds! Pikachu is a mouse! What’s it going to do? Reverse its polarity so that it hovers like Magneto?
It has balloons tied to it, I think.
pikachu has been able to fly ever since the first gen. it aint a new thing, and yes, it does it with ballons as usual.
just google “flying pikachu”
When I heard pikachu can fly, the first thing I thought of was groups of them flying around shootibg lightning bolts at each other with ‘highway to the danger zone’ playing. Thank you for that beautiful image.
Flying in formation with Ride of the Valkyries playing. …or at least them singing it. Pi-pi-pipi-pi pi, pi-pipi-pi pi, pi-pipi-pi pi, pi-kaka-chuuuu. And that was a lot harder to type out than I thought it would be.
I want a web comic of top gun pikachus now
I’m seeing them bombing a town with thunder bolts in aviator helmets with ‘Ode de joy’ in the background, Weedles and mr. mimes running in terror as their village is leveled by the red pika baron.
I imagine them coming in from a distance, in a large yellow cloud, wrecking stuff up, with the first few seconds of “Troubled Wine” playing.
I’m surprised “Flight of the Valkyries” hasn’t come up yet.
O Fortuna
Bwah? It did. O_o
Op, didn’t catch the comment before the “Ode to Joy” one.
You have just made a Pokemon bearable! Awesome ….
I’d probably get a lot more out of this if I had ever played any Pokemon. Yet, I behold the pretty artses and I am content.
I’m glad you’ve finally shown that using Mr. Fish to beat Pokemon into submission has finally had an effect on poor Mr. Fish. As if the eyes didn’t give it away lol. Good work!
And as for Mr. Fish looking fat, I guess Jared gives him too many treats.
any gyarados, just like any kid, likes to eat candys and treats no matter how fat it gets XD
Oh Ho Ho! See iss funny because pokemon can only learn four attacks! (Read in voice of foreign guy from family guy who explains sarcasm)
In all seriousness this cracked me up.
Oh Ho Ho! Now YOU funny!
Mr. Fish looks kinda fat?
Preg.
Ah, man, gotta love how nice the Commander is about Jared wanting to show off Mr. Fish. You don’t have to a jerk to be masculine!
I rather expect Mr. Fish is the only reason the Commander has any respect at all for Jared.
Ahaha. I have to agree.
Or at least, the way he trained Mr. Fish (which you have to admit is far more interesting than anything outside the games themselves depict it as, and still more interesting than that).
great art as usual, though i would rather like to know where the background went (eaten by the 80 hour job, i suppose).
i imagine it takes a lot of treats to get a gyarados to do tricks. i’m just waiting for jared to attempt teaching mr. fish how to shake hands.
Panel Six Mr. Fish does not appreciate these snide accusations.
Uh, you mean he doesn’t have time for those snide insinuations?
Found this webcomic today, and after reading from beginning to current… the ammount of win is ungodly impossibly win. XD If there were gods of gaming, macho, and random schenanigens… they would all be considering retirement with you in their stead. Keep up the awesome, and shading or not, the humor and style you have is classic.
Now show Commander your recently learned Hyper Beam move.
Poor Mr. Fish …. he looks so perpetually unhappy.
Eh, frankly, I’d be really, really worried if he -did- look happy.
It would mean that somewhere, a trainer was missing their pikachu.
…that’s not terribly worrying. Now, a trainer missing their Raichu, that’s a little worrying. But for the love of frak, if you don’t evolve the dang thing…. why worry about it?
Hmm.. I’m noticing a lot less backround, and a lot more hand-drawn.
Not bad. Just.. different.
That’s just the past couple weeks. I’ve been at the studio all day seven days a week, so I drew them after work before I come home.
ya know i like this strip how it is awsome comic btw :D
oh and do you work in a music studio by any Change?:p
An animation studio, I work on boards, character designs, layout posing, animation, and inbetweens for Ugly Americans.
you work for ugly americans? my friend turned me onto that show. it’s weird, but the kind of weird i can get behind. oh and props for the genghis khan quote
Damn it, they’re stuck in Limbo.
haha i’m liking the lazy eye you gave Mr Fish.
That, combined with his single facial expression, gives him character that no amount of dialogue with Jared could ever construct.
btw, i showed this strip to a few of my friends.
we laughed for about an hour and a half at the “Jared” story; we had been hooked on pokemon for about six months before these events had transpired.
It’s because Mr.Fish probably has some sorta severe brain damage.
Gyarados NEVER has its mouth closed though…
I’m guessing you’ve never played Pokemon Snap or Pokemon Stadium.
I really like the line style on this one haha
I don’t know if that’s weird, but it looks like a calligraphy pen or something. and it’s super rad
also the commander is so nice to jared haha
ps I like how roll-over is more jared-pushes-him-over hahaha
It’s just drawn in Flash.
The day we see Mr. Fish smile will be the day that everything explodes….
I discovered this comic today and it has made my day awesome because of it. Thank you for making it!
Looks like Mr. Fish is a natural at playing dead.
HA! sideways mr. fish is one of the funniest things i’ve ever seen.
Just wanted to say I came over from Diesel Sweeties and I’m def. here to stay!
I wonder what he would delete for hyper beam.
nah he would replace it for body slam;D
Hah, no Gyrados worth his salt would ever have anything but four hyper beams.
Liar. A good Gyarados has at least a Thunder Fang or something. Silly kid, special beam attacks are for things that aren’t made of slab armor and giant teeth.
Maybe some detail on the Commander (teehee) lost that tooth…?
Jared’s buddies?
http://punditkitchen.com/2010/08/19/political-pictures-pokemon/
Best way to come home from Scotland – to two new Manly Guys comics :3
Funny stuff as always ^w^
Have you been saving your more recent comics in JPEG? The image quality is a bit… fuzzy.
they’re all jpgs, the last couple have just been in Flash, it’s probably something to do with the vector lines.
lol I like how they are just hangin out in a white void
I feel like each one of Jared’s facial expressions is based off of an internet emoticon. TOO MUCH XBOX FORUMS FOR YOU YOUNG MAN.
Genius. <3
He’s looking a little fat because he doesn’t get to do much in terms of battling/exercise these days.
Now I’m self-conscious about my wei… no wait, that’s gone too, I now know how to cause Tsunamis in bay areas…
he’s gonna kick himself when he learns that instead of roll over, he could be teaching Mr. Fish ice beam or fly
How does Mr. Fish keep himself preoccupied during business hours?
The world must know more about our favorite brain-damaged Gyrados.
I’ll have you know that Mr Fish appeared in a dream I had the other night. And he was romping around in a neighborhood with pools in their back yards, and wouldn’t come to me when I called him. I am serious…. I love this comic so much. :)
I really like the linework and color choices in this one.
Oh god, the years of playing pokemon gameboy and having to decide which move to keep. The trauma. Love this one.
Who would have ever thought that gyarados could close his mouth. I always found it strange that they would chill with their mouths ajar.
More Mr. Fish!
I love the Commander’s “Great job” expression in panel 4.
So I just started playing Pokemon White… And I officially have to name a Magikarp “Mr. Fish” now.
Mr. Fish is so full of win! <3
i just love your comics!
saw you on DA once, came here, got addicted 3<
*yay 4 mr fish <3*
Mr. Fish is the best pokemon ever… he constantly looks like somwhere between im unamused with you, and absolute apathy
