Cool announcements I was hoping to have had to be postponed, computer is still having issues, lot of things going wrong, stressful week all around.
…Oh yeah that’s right! Jones is a butcher! And apparently a very good one. Skinning a boar off screen that fast? In armor?! Whatever the grocery store’s paying her, it ain’t enough.
Oh Jones is butchring a different animal, Angel’s dealing with the boar… I would’a tried to make it more clear but I had like three hours to make this. it’s been a tough week.
Shame, that. If Jones was THAT good, I would’ve loved to see the HEAD Butcher at work. It’d probably be amazing and terrifying at the same time.
I would not mess with the Head Butcher, ever, if they were even half as good as what that panel looked like.
Eh, don’t worry too much. The Head Butcher can only skin you that quick above the neck. He’s not much good any further down.
He’s a very specialized butcher.
And possibly….a serial killer.
haha, that makes me think about Len the Butcher….
Doesn’t she have to skin the head butcher and wear his skin to become head butcher?
Let’s just say that if you ever meet (meat?) the Head Butcher, try to keep it out of sight, in your pants.
Yah…I just went THERE.
But I’m far less dangerous THERE than the Head Butcher would be.
The Head Butcher attacks while his victims are stunned by the punny horror of his name.
In a meat processing plant, the cows get the stun hammer…Here, we get the pun hammer.
While forums have the ban hammer.
Are you pulling these puns out of hammer space?
You drew all that in three hours?!
Holy crap, it woulda taken me three days!
Yeah, many artists struggle to keep to their schedules because they need so much more time. Like days, not hours, to do the caliber you do. I would love to see your workflow. Have you ever done any videos or tutorials?
Probably if the thing looked bigger it would be easier to see it was a different animal. But it didn’t matter to me, I simply assumed she had field dressed a Chimera AND a boar. That was even more impressive, lol.
In my head canon, Jones skinned Angel’s boar, then had it ready to wear for her in the span of those three panels.
I don’t know the panel progression is kinda odd, but it still works quite well. Panel 2 has a boar, three shows skinned boar, 4 has boar hoodie. The only thing that throws it off mentally is step 1 feels like it should be someplace after 3, so they have steaks to actually cook, but I think it works quite well still! Don’t worry about it, it looks good.
Wait, they can take that much to the bear head? I thought the Commander and his piers were the Rambo / Cap Murica kind of super soldier. Looks like I was wrong
They can also take that much to be bare head too, but bear heads just go so well with the survival scenario…
They’ve got Spacefuture body armour implanted under their skin.
So… they’re basically Palladium cyberknights?
I understood that reference!
Bringin’ us back round to good ol’ Cap, well played sir, well played. Also, I did NOT understand that reference, so a secondary bravo to you.
Well, far be it from me to spill the beans on the reference & put a Rift in our relationship.
I recognize that as a pun! I don’t know anything about Rift, but I was observant enough to pick up on the fact you were using subtle humor! :-D
I’m definitely getting Juiced on all these Rifts puns.
the commander and his families games are a little too tough for me. jones is a very very understanding girlfriend
Which is awesome, btw.
And apparently very sturdy too.
…For not being a DNA-modified future space-soldier, that is.
yes I have to agree with you there.
now i can’t not hear Heavy say “Jones is Credit to Team!”
You said mag and not clip. 10/10
There’s a difference?
A mag is contained, a clip is open. Clips are frequently used to load a magazine quickly.
I’m going to have to Google this. I’m having trouble visualizing.
The easiest thing I can think of is the colloquially known “banana clip,” which isn’t a clip at all. It’s a magazine, or “mag.” They’re the thing on an AK-47 holding all the bullets.
An actual “banana clip” would be an open rack holding all the bullets aligned so you could quickly slide them into the magazine.
Yeah, after reading this comic and the possibility of taking 16 rounds to the head, I can say that it’s definitely going to be a while before Commander lets the kids take part in one of these war games.
And even then, they’ll probably be rigged out like Jones is – or upgraded to the same kind of armor their dad has.
You have to remember, the Commander had the armor implanted against his will. So chances are very good that unless his kids request it themselves after they turn eighteen, they’ll never have the upgrades their father has. Actually, would they even be able to get the mods then? I know that tech can come pretty far in just a couple of years, never mind roundabout a decade, but I doubt that the kind of technology we’re talking about would be developed in just a (roundabout) ten year span. The Commander may have been born hundreds of years in the future, but it’s more or less hinted that his wife and kids are from the current time period (though equally hinted that his wife has visited the future at least once). It’s never really explained what the rules there are. Would his kids be allowed to travel into the future since there father comes from a future era? And if so, would they be able to get those mods? And that brings to mind another question. It was again hinted, but never really outright said, that the Commander and his siblings were considered ‘property’ of the government, though they were later given various rights. Would his kids also be considered ‘property’ of the spacefuture government? Or are they immune to any form of ‘drafting’ due to being born in the past?
Seeing as Jones went to the future and she’s ‘just’ the girlfriend, then I’d say the kids can go to the future, too. Now, if they WANT to go or if they’re allowed to get the upgrades, who knows.
Bear in mind that “most of us” means that Angel and the others are pretty cybered up – but Commander Rock Lobster there is the only one to personally and specifically reject them, both because he’s tired of having them shoved into him while he’s unconscious, and because his girlfriend-at-the-time turned into Arcee while he was away on a mission.
But yeah, I love that Jones and his family are getting along so well. And that Commander DID do the obvious thing, which was “sorry, can’t hang out because I’m spending time with my sister… wanna come along? I can ask and see if she can use you – oh, that’s right, you’re a butcher? That’s gonna be a big selling point…” ^.^
Oh, he’s still got the endoArmour, it’s kinda his fault from that time he got gutted and Angel got bumped up to Captain, it’s why he’s got that big autopsy-lookin’ scar in the one strip where his cyborg ex is giving him the thumbs up like “one of us” and why he tells Raiden he’s barely a robot.
whoa. I love this.
so, figured I’d poke around and find at least one of these pages for the sake of seeing what you were talking about. Seeing as it’s actually pretty far past the most recent page in the archive, figured I’d share it in case anyone else wanted to see it too: http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/archives/comic/happy-four-years-of-mgdmt
Found the other one!
“I feel like an invincible can of soup” is my sentence of the day…
Definitely going to find a scenario where I can legit use that line one day…
Just wait for Fallout 4. They always have items like that laying about. Assuming the physics hit-boxes are just as bad as always, you may even be able to use it to block for you. Like that invincible wooden plank one fellow used as a shield while playing Fallout 3.
Just don’t say that around a herd of billygoats…
*exasperated goatherd sigh*
You managed to make an entire herd of goats sigh in exasperation. Impressive.
Definitely going to be thinking/saying “invincible can of soup” every single time I see armor even slightly like that from now on. Forever.
Sorry to hear about everything going wrong, still impressed that you put out a full-colour comic like always. I love Jones’s enthusiasm fitting into the genegineered super soldier crowd. I also like the continuing idea that practical food-prep skills are more highly prized than being super buff and tough and outdoorsy.
I also hope she’s not too hot in that armour. I was assuming it was some kind of tropical conditions from the surroundings and their outfits, but then I guess it doesn’t have to be hot for the Commander to dress like that. He can just be taking the opportunity to wear what he can’t when he’s operating in normal civilian society.
Maybe she was given one of those cooling suits like astronauts have to wear under the armor.
What exactly is wrong with what he is wearing? o_O
Nothing’s wrong with it, but aside from the mask it’s best suited to a hot & humid environment where exposure to the air is a good thing.
Nothing wrong with wanting to dress like Lord Humungus, but it’s not necessarily setting a good example of blending into civilian society for the Guys.
Given the proportions of the armor relative to Jones’ normal proportions I get the feeling that it’s actually some type of power armor done up to look like platemail.
Mostly it’s just inspired by that suit of armour they put Ashley in when you play RE4 on professional mode.
I hear that makes the game super easy
I had the same impression, but I’ve been poring through Warhammer 40K books for a few hours, so my perception’s a little skewed.
When you think about it, Commander is rather domestic. He minds the cooking so often. It’s very sweet.
Did you just foreshadow Jones getting offed? IT’S NOT THAT KIND OF COMIC…… is it?
*next month is Jones’s funeral, comic ends afterward*
I’m assuming it was just highlighting how strong and survivory they all are
love the RE4 armor thing I was laughing for about 30 minutes with that can of soup bit. I was expecting Jones to be dressed like Tina Turner in Mad Max 3
That dialogue in the penultimate panel…are we sure Jones isn’t related to Jared somehow?
I personally think they’re long lost cousins.
YAY! Thank you for continuing this plotline!
I’m sorry you’re having a bad time, Kelly. I hope things go better for you. *cyber hug*
Anyone else notice that Commander looks like Ultimate Juggernaut?
Turned off Adblock just for you. I generally only do it for sites that require it, but your comic is one of my favorites.
Also, you asked nicely, so fuck it.
Same, I just realized I could whitelist sites. Hope it helps in some small fashion!
Adblock disabled for this site now.
Really, it’s not fair that everyone gets screwed over because a few- well virtually all- advertisers went a little crazy with the advertising. At least the TV commercials every 3 minutes (and commercials built INTO the shows themselves) didn’t cause your TV to freeze up or by pressing the wrong button on the remote steal your bank info. I mean, they would if they could, but they can’t. And because Congresscritters use TV but barely understand the internet, there are RULES on TV adverts, like that law passed a while ago limiting how loud commercials can be…
I just remembered something else about Jones. She is almost like a human swiss army knife with the amount of skills she apparently has. At least I think I remember something as such being mentioned a while back. She is likely to have a lot of uses for this outting.
Here ya go.
Don’t know if Jonesy’s bein’ sarcastic or not…
Jonesy can probably take a good hit. *Ghosts ‘n Goblins theme plays*
Blegh, that game. So much frustration. So much fun.
Why did Arthur only have underpants beneath his armor, anyway?
Because plate armor is *hot*.
I believe the chimera is already being grilled by the Commander and Jonesey skinned the boar real quick for Angel to wear in the space of three panels. That’s my take, anyway.
Infinite hugs, and I hope whatever is not going right will go right!! <3 <3 <3
This comic is my new favorite thing ever. <3
Man.. I just read the whole comic in one sitting. Definitely gonna have to bookmark it and check it out. Was some really hilarious stuff.
like a turducken but the meat is in three separate piles.
