I figure they’d have a hard enough time differentiating all the snake clones and Kurt Russell macho men they probably just keep them all in an underground bunker somewhere.
All those Snakes… And they didn’t even add a first name for it! How would we know if it’s for Solidus, Liquid, Solid, or, or or…
It could be the first name, of: Snake Plissken.
From the original or the coming soon (and shitty without a doubt) remake?
Do you mean Metal Gear Solid:The Phantom Pain/ Ground Zeroes. You do know it’s not a remake but a new game starring big boss 10 days after Peace Walker, right?
I was referring to “Escape for New York” remake. To comment on the game you mention, I look forward to anything involving Big Boss.
Oops, sorry, my bad.
I am glad you said something, hadn’t heard about the new game. Made my day to find out about it.
Snake Plisken? I’d heard he was dead.
You heard wrong
That thing up in Cleveland?
You forget time shenanigans. Anything is possible, but then again I doubt time travel would be used for a single strip.
Technically, Plissken’s first name is Robert, IIRC.
At least it wasn’t up to Indiana Jones to pass on that letter…He’d have so much trouble opening the door leading to a basement full of Snakes!
Well played sir.
I see what you did there :D
You… I like you.
Snake? SNAKE? SNAAAKE!!
THIS IS THE BEST
Agreed! From the very official letter (it’s probably one of Ocelot’s tricks) to the Indiana Jones reference to the actual joke, this is probably the best single page of a video game webcomic I’ve ever read.
Agreed. Plus ‘Kurt Locker’.
My metal gear fanboy side doesn’t even want to nitpick.
Laughed that hard.
I love the Kurt Locker sign.
If they start a fight club down there, they might have to call it the Snake Pit.
Come to think of it, I wonder what the letter is. Maybe one of them is being awarded a title ending in “Boss”?
I want to play that game now: Metal Gear: Snake Pit
Basically a fighting game where all of them are beating each other in the Snake Pit like you so amply put it.
Shut up, take my money and develop that shit immediately
So Super Smash Bros., Street Fighter, etc., but all the characters are Snake?
I love today’s strip thisssssssssssssss much
Ha ha ha!
Snakes…why’d it have to be snakes…
Okay, my real name is Indiana Jones (I wish I was kidding) and I LOVE this strip. Freaking hilarious.
Wasn’t he named after his dog?
No, they named the dog Indiana. Henry Johns Jr. just had fond memories of that dog :p
he hated his name so he said that was his name. no one knew it was the dog. except for him and the dad
That was a gag Lucas threw in at the end of the third movie; the character was named for Lucas’s dog, Indiana.
Oh, the puns. The beautiful puns.
So…let’s see, we’ve got Solid Snake, Liquid, Solidus, Naked Snake, Old Snake, whoever that new guy in Phantom Pain is, and let’s not forget that Raiden was at one point referred to as ‘Snake’, too. Not to mention Snake Plissken.
Don’t forget Snakeyes
Ten comments and still no mention of being on a plane?
Well, once the Kurt Locker gets too full they’ll probably contact some wizard-equivalent to turn it into a demiplane.
NO, Raistlin, you still aren’t allowed to join the agency! (Caramon’s welcome, though.)
Yay, Dragonlance! Woo hooo.
Gah! I’ve only read one of those, the one that gives Raistlin’s backstory. Need to find the rest!
Ah, Preludes. I’m just starting up the main series myself.
What ho, muscle wizard! might you cast us a spell?
I’M TIRED OF THESE MOTHERF**KING SOLID SNAKES IN MY MOTHERF**KING MACHO MAN TEMP AGENCY!
When a normal person goes down there, all of them hide in cardboard boxes, but Commander is so Badass he can sneak up on ALL of the Snakes at once like this. Thank you Coel~! This made my day!
Not to be a critic but I thought the only way this could have been funnier is if all of the snakes had the ! over their heads in the 3rd panel
That is the only way this could be funnier.
Jonesy probably thinks it’s just extra storage space, what with all the boxes of oranges scattered around.
I’m sure Jared has made his way down there and been thoroughly traumatized at least once.
I LOVE YOU COELASQUID!!!
this is amazing! great comic! SNAAAAAAAAAAAKE!
*giggle* There is nothing about this I don’t love!
The only way it could be better is if it actually turned out to be for Snake-Eyes.
Hopefully Snake from “The Simpsons” is down there, too.
But I really can’t get enough of Escape from New York :)
A few months ago I watched a cut scene that was supposed to be the intro – basically detailing how Snake was caught. Just showed me how smart the director was in cutting off that loose end.
Contrast that with the horrible massacre done to the ‘Dune’ movie – the director’s cut has so many essential pieces that are crucial to understand the plot.
Okay – enough rumbling from chewy…
The ‘Dune’ Movie with Sting in it? Or that more recent mini-series?
The original movies from the 80’s. It’s director cut version was almost 50% longer and stayed very near to the original novel.
I find that the directors cut of Dune is an excellent way of testing friendships. My ex’s younger brother sat all the way through it, didn’t fall asleep, and had never even heard of it before. I still chat with him from time to time, and I got him hooked on Sci-Fi that way. Then came the Pern novels…
Oh dear gods don’t get me started on Pern…Damn great series that one…
As for the comic funny as hell and i’m not even a MG fan.
That’s why, whenever I plan to introduce him to a new series, I laugh like an overly hammy villain.
This makes me laugh far more than it should. I can think of at least a dozen characters that would be down there without trying, wondering how many more will come to mind in a few hours. Think they buy there eye-patches together in bulk?
I now have the urge to list every single fictional character that goes by the totally-original name, but I’m stumped beyond the ones already listed.
You’d think there’d be more. Way more.
Snake pit? Don’t tell Indy.
Hmm, alright, I count at least 7 Snakes in that picture, so we’re gonna need… at least a hundred badgers and a dozen mushrooms.
wow just how many snake’s are there?
This is a comic about macho dudes from movies and videogames. ‘Snake’s are quite abundant.
I’m kinda looking forward to the Escape From New York remake. It’s very possible that it’s going to be bad, but if they do it well it could be AWESOME. Only problem I’ve got is that apparently the one currently in the lead to play Snake is Tom Hardy. Got nothing against the guy. I liked him enough as Bane, and he was interesting in Inception, he’s just not right for Snake though. Gerrard Butler and Jeremy Renner were both once in the lead to play him and I think either one would be a far better choice.
Tom Hardy is an awful actor, I’ve never seen him move outside the range of bad to forgettable and he does some of the worst accents I’ve ever heard. I couldn’t pay attention to anything he said in Warrior because I spent the entire time he was on screen wondering what accent he thought he sounded like he had in his head and the first time he had a line in Batman I involuntarily started laughing in the theatre. Everyone points to Bronson as “proof that he is a great actor” but I dunno, man, I watched it and got nothing but “drama school student thesis performance” vibes.
Gam Goomps’ Arin did an excellent Bane voice. Much better at being Tom Hardy than Tom Hardy. :p
I just wanna know who they’re going to get to play the Duke of New York, man. That guy had style.
The original had The Duke played by Isaac Hayes, who was the man responsible for the classic Shaft theme. He passed away quite a few years ago, but the remake has been talked about for a long long time. I always felt that if they ever got it together and were able to do it right then the only man who could pull off The Duke would be Michael Clarke Duncan, but he passed away last year. So now… who knows. Who ever it is he’s gonna have to be intimidating enough.
and I’ve got to agree Coelasquid, Tom Hardy for the most part isn’t a very good actor. Honestly I don’t really know how he’s become as popular as he has. I’d never heard of him before Inception so I didn’t care about his character. And Bane was more about the muscle and the mask. Pretty much anyone could have played the part. I’ve never heard of Bronson, but just reading the synopsis the whole thing seems laughably horrible.
I don’t get all the slobbering over Tom Hardy either. It was so hard to take Bane seriously because he sounded like a drunk Sean Connery. I kept expecting him to tell Catwoman that she needed a good slap to the mouth.
And why is does everyone act like he’s the hottest man on Earth? He has a nice body (like every other young actor in Hollywood, so big deal), but his ears stick out so much they receive signals from SETI, his lips look like he bit down on a hot curling iron on a drunken dare and his janky teeth belong in the Big Book of British Smiles (Lisa’s not the only one who needs braces!).
Hell, he was one of the main reasons Star Trek Nemesis stunk so bad. I couldn’t finish watching the damn thing because of the overwhelming smell of rotten ham wafting from the screen every time Shinzon spoke.
+1 Vote for Kurt Russel in Metal Gear Solid: The Movie
‘The Kurt Locker’
I see what you did there.
Really? I must be missing something really obvious, then, because I don’t.
In 2008, there was a very manly movie called The Hurt Locker. Snake Plissken (of Escape From New York and Escape From LA) was played by Kurt Russel.
For some reason I’m finding it hilarious that the current advertizement is for the Scarlet Blade MMO.
Me, I got an advertisement for ladders.
Boots and pick-up trucks. I find these advertisements … acceptable.
Not ok. I’m 23
Rifle scopes and gubmitt subsidized lending. Seems kinda randumb…
You guys are lucky. All I get are ‘help the cancerbabies’.
Mine aren’t even random… Just phones.
You lucky bums.
The ads use your cookies to choose ads for you, so they depend completely on on your own personal search history.
Is that the official address?
Lmao. Serious pun props for “Why’d it have to be snake?” and “Kurt Locker”. :)
you outdid yourself this time, Coelasquid.
*Calling Captain Kurt, we have a problem in the snake pit*
*read the second panel* Hah! TVTropes it is…
Kurt Locker… *snkr*
Do you have any idea of what you’ve done? You’ve trapped fifty people
Those were good men! They didn’t have to DIE!
Sang Froid: Tales of Werewolves is out. Jos reminds me a lot of Canada Guy.
Best 30 seconds of my morning. Thanks!
“Snake are you there?”
After a while they are probably just pages that contain the word ‘snake’ but still quite a few.
Wonder if Data ever shows up at the MG office looking for two people with a snake.
LOL GREAT reference..Only wouldn’t it be an ophidian?
So uhh…I didn’t finish reading all of the comments, but why does everybody keep saying Snake Plissken? Wasn’t it Iroquois Pliskin?
Go watch Escape From New York.
There was also a sequel, escape From LA. Basic plot was too similar with Escape From New York for me to enjoy it, so I wouldn’t recommend it. I think John Carpenter lost his creativity after the first movie…
Man. I think this might be the most jokes I’ve ever seen successfully delivered in a four-panel comic.
…I just realized that you had the letter addressed that way so you don’t need a name for the temp agency.
Or a city for it to be in.
This reminds me of something from a few years back:
It’s… It’s a SNAKE PIT! :D
So the door apparently opens both ways! :)
Haha, good catch! I noticed it just a second ago.
I’m sure all the doors in the building are built that way on purpose. Otherwise, they had to replace the doorframe and patch the wall every time someone burst through a door from the wrong side– which, the agency being what it is, happens ~8 times per day.
I’ve just watched Indiana jones and the crystal skull yesterday, and I’m laughing so hard with the snakes reference … nice one coela.
Can we call this room the Snake Pit?
Missed opertunity of calling it the snake pit with an image of Dr. Jones shying away from it. Although next I can see them all responding and getting on a plane… well Mr Jackson might have a thing to say there….
so thats why Otacon shouts out his name so many times…
I feel like it’s more of a Indiana Jones reference…
And somehow my first thought is if Future Twilight Sparkle is down there.
Is it weird that I always imagine Commander Badass as being voiced by Patrick Warburton?
Escape From New York and an Indy reference? Together? It feels like when somebody invents a new gadget and you think ‘aw, man, I should totally have thought of that!’
I just want a CGI action movie about a bad guy abducting all the Snakes and forcing them to duke it out on an aircraft. It would be called *waitforit* Snakes on a Plane!
